German to English: Friedrich Ohly, "Zür Übersetzung" from Das St. Trudperter Hohelied
Source text - German
I) ins Neuhochdeutsche übersetzt. Dank nicht selten groben Mißverstehens des Texts unzureichend übertragen sind die von Johanna Lanczkowski in ihrer Mystikanthologie gebrachten Abschnitte des TH (Erhebe dich, S. 35-51). Die jüngsten Bucher zum TH von Regine Hummel (Mystische Modelle) und Hildegard Elisabeth Keller (Wort und Fleisch) haben ihren reichlichen Zitaten aus dem Werk eine Übersetzung beigegeben.
Translation - English
We present the first translation of the entire work. Until now only small, scattered portions had been brought forward. Sections marked by their form and spirit were translated into Modern High German as examples of the beauty of such portions of the text, such as the author’s prayer at the outset translated by Max Wehrli (German Lyric of the Middle Ages) and Alois Wolf (German Culture), others for their illustration of the character of the work, translated by Karl Bertau (German Literature, Vol. 1). Because of often great misinterpretations of the text the sections of the Trudperter Hohelied undertaken by Johanna Lanczkowski in her anthology of mysticism (Arise, pp. 35-51) are insufficiently translated. The earliest books on the Trudperter Hohelied by Regine Hummel (Mystical Models) and Hildegard Elisabeth Keller (Word and Flesh) added translations to their abundant quotations from the work.

Bio

I have been a translator full-time through Proz.com since 2015. I earned my Bachelor's degree in English at Harvard University in 2010 and my Master's degree in Medieval Literature from the University of Toronto in 2015. I have extensive experience with German, having studied at Harvard and in Munich, as well as having passed the Centre for Medieval Studies' German language proficiency examination. During my years at the University of Toronto I read academic texts primarily in German. I have also taught seminars on translating German academic texts into English to PhD students.

My translation experience in this language covers primarily technical, academic, and marketing prose, including manuals and instructions, tourism documents, and promotional materials.

As a student in the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto, from which I graduated with an M.A. in 2015, I focused on medieval German Marian poetry and read extensively in Modern German.

I studied Latin for one and a half years at Harvard and for two years at the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto. I have passed the Centre's M.A. level Latin examination.

I also have experience with medieval languages including Old English and Old Norse as well as with modern French.

Also an accomplished creative writer, I am able to adapt the style of my translations to suit my clients' needs.

I look forward to collaborating with you!
