Blog ist aus der Bezeichnung Weblog abgeleitet, einer Art Web-Tagebuch, das als Webseite geführt wird. Ein solches Logbuch entspricht einem Journal und ist mit Einträgen, Kommentaren und Notizen versehen, die chronologisch geordnet sind: der aktuellste Eintrag befindet sich an oberster Stelle, gefolgt von älteren Einträgen. Für die Erstellung und Pflege des Blogs steht entsprechende Blog-Software zur Verfügung.
