French term

demande principale en divorce vs. demande en divorce

French Law/Patents Law (general) Divorce
Hi all,

Can someone tell me if there is a difference between a "demande **principale** en divorce" and a "demande en divorce" ? I have been translating "demande en divorce" as "petition for divorce".

Comments?

Thanks!

demande principale en divorce vs. demande en divorce

The "demande principale" is the first or initial petition in a divorce procedure when other divorce petitions exist (petitions based on different grounds), introduced by the other spouse or by the spouse who has introduced the first one.

demande principale

On dire "demande principale en divorce" lorsqu'on réfère à la requête initiale. De façon générale au cours des procédures, on pourra parler de la "demande en divorce".
