From a powerpoint report of an internal company review of the number of hits on the company intranet website(s).

The problem: the term base I was sent dictates that I should translate "Umsetzung" as "implementation".

In any event, I don't understand what "in der eigenen Einheit" might mean here. A partial translation gives "Measures for implementing in the **eigenen** [own?] unit."

This just sounds awful, and clearly makes no sense.
Any suggestions much appreciated :-)

My final thought: In a PP slide, the “measures” referred to in this heading may indeed be missing in the written text and be part of the speaker’s verbal presentation, as in „let’s *do the following* to improve *training and customer orientation*, sharpen our *bank image* and speed up the *pace of change*“.

I am not worried about the points. I am glad Steffen was able to confirm my intuitions from his native perspective. I agree that PP presentations can be a pain. Often they are designed to be accompanied by a spoken commentary, which we don't get to see.

I used Richard's proposed answer "Measures to be implemented in your/our/one's own unit" in his first comment in the "notes to/from asker" section, so I'm not sure how to award points.

Is there some protocol I should follow?

Additionally:
I was myself flummoxed by the lack of context. Your collective discussion helped me decide that the "measures to be implemented" must in fact be the categories listed in the subsequent table, although the category headings in the table - "Training and customer orientation", "Bank image", or "Pace of change", didn't sound (and still don't sound) much like "measures to be implemented" (in one's own organizational or wherever) to me. In my experience, translating powerpoint slides can be like cracking a spy code.

Richard, I'm happy to award Steffen the points, although his answer was virtually the same one you gave first, if you have no objection :-)

Furher to David's comment: 'Maßnahmen zur Umsetzung' means meansures for for the purpose of implementing *something*' (unspecified here), not measures to be implemented. Thus 'implementation measures', as David suggests.

Your heading in 2 plain English variants: (a) If the heading is preceeded by some important bit of information which needs to be implemented: “Implementation measures to be taken in your unit” (b) If “implementation” refers to the contents of the table: “Implement these measures in your unit”, as in „Alle Dokumente zur Unterzeichnung müssen in doppelter Ausfertigung mitgebracht werden.“ I hope that's not too confusing.

I'll try to keep this brief.
The file I'm translating is part of a powerpoint presentation, meaning that much of the information is presented in bulletpoints, and assumes relevant knowledge on the part of the audience...knowledge that I, as translator, do not have. All I can say is that this is a report on the results of a survey.

Richard's original suggestion might make sense of the table. As noted, a table listing "number, in %, and category" (no more information than this, sad to say) follows the heading I'm having trouble translating.

Maybe these table categories (Zusammenarbeit und Arbeitsbeziehungen, Schulung und Weiterentwicklung etc., are in fact the "measures", which respondents have replied need further "implementation in their own organization units". Does that make sense?

More context: Sorry, a table immediately follows the title "Maßnahmen zur Umsetzung in der **eigenen** Einheit". The table heading is "Anzahl der Nennungen je Kategorie für die gesamte [X] "Stand Eingaben 18.03.2007" [number of entries per categories for all of [company name], "as at 18.03.2007"].

Table subheadings include: Anzahl, in %, and Kategorie.

The category names include examples like the following:
Zusammenarbeit und Arbeitsbeziehungen, Schulung und Weiterentwicklung, Management/Aufsicht, Image der Bank/Gesellschaft und der Unternehmensgruppe, Tempo der Veränderungen und Arbeitsbelastung Kundenorientierung, Führung, Organisatorische Effizienz.

The powerpoint presentation is an report to managment on the results from a survey covering the effectiveness (counting number of hits) on various aspects of a company intranet.

With Richard -- 'eigen' could also be rendered as 'specific' or 'individual', depending on the context -- e.g. 'measures to be implemented in individual business units'. If the measures are to be implemented by the members of the audience, 'your' would do

Self-explaining, IMO. Measures to be implemented in one's "unit of the company" (division, department, etc.). When I work in a certain department it is "meine (eigene) Abteilung".

I'd say they were measures for implementation or better measures to be implemented. "Eigen" could just be "own". "Measures to be implemented in your/our/one's own unit" makes sense, although it could be polished.

Where is the problem?

An adviser has prepared a presentation on measures for improvenebt ina particular company and its busines units (divisions, departments, whatever).

Now he is communicating his findings/suggestions to the management/employees of these very business units. Therefore "your" is the best alternative.

measures to implemented in one's own unit

More context is definetly needed to decide on the "eigene einheit". But generally einheit is simply a unit, may it be hardware or team of people etc. The word implement should not confuse you because it is actually commonly used for "umsetzung" in English especially in technical fields such as IT. My transaltion is just a general one to jump start you.

I beleive literally this is the solution:

Massnahmen = Measures (Zusammenarbeit und Arbeitsbeziehungen, Schulung und Weiterentwicklung)
Umsetzung = Implementation (the figures I believe reflect the % of implementation)
Eigenen einheit = own unit, organizational unit (each individual unit)

Put together I would suggest this sentence and the table should explain the rest:




measures to be implemented in each individual unit or organizational unit -


I am sorry I can't offer more choices but one would need to read the pages before and after even if they are very short texts and tables to get the full scope and understanding of the heading and its relation to other data.
