Discussion

Mikhail Zavidin Apr 22, 2017:
@Frank MacroJanus: Good guess, but “Дт” and “Кт” are common shortcuts made in accounting books and reports in Russian. They usually mean headings or titles of respectively the left and right columns of the accounts or the dual/double recordings/entries in the books.
Frank Szmulowicz, Ph. D. Apr 22, 2017:
@Mikhail: Good to hear the explanation. You must admit, thought, that total for T has certain flair, deserving a separate trophy in the hall of missed guesses.:)
Mikhail Zavidin Apr 22, 2017:
As I can understand, “Кт” stands for “кредит,” a noun, the right part (column) of the account, while “К” stands for “кредитовый,” an adjective, a qualifier for “остаток” (balance).
Frank Szmulowicz, Ph. D. Apr 22, 2017:
Given that these are numbers at the very end of the compilation, I surmise that T stands for Total - just a label for the final figures. A scientific person would have made it into a subscript. This also lends credence to the answer provided by Mr. Mikhail Zavidin.
Dylan Edwards (asker) Apr 22, 2017:
And then, right at the end, the figures for the closing balance are followed by "Кт". They are identical with the figures immediately above them, which are followed by "К". I can only conclude that "Кт" and "К" mean the same thing.

@ Dylan Edwards Re: It's just that I don't remember seeing k or K for thousand within a Russian text before - only тыс.

As I’ve already said, the decimal point is used instead of the decimal comma, so the person who typed (or wrote) the text didn’t even care to use the proper decimal separator.
Lazyt3ch Apr 21, 2017:
Hint: Some people are too lazy to switch the keyboard layout back and forth while typing.
Dylan Edwards (asker) Apr 21, 2017:
Yes, I'm inclining that way too. It's just that I don't remember seeing k or K for thousand within a Russian text before - only тыс.
Frank Szmulowicz, Ph. D. Apr 21, 2017:
I was also aiming at a thousand, which in English would be K from kilo. The curly К had me in knots.
Lazyt3ch Apr 21, 2017:
It doesn’t matter whether the Russian “К” or the English “K” is used. :) Trust me, both of them can be used in practice for the same purpose simply because they usually look the same.
Dylan Edwards (asker) Apr 21, 2017:
The more curly К. The Russian К.
Frank Szmulowicz, Ph. D. Apr 21, 2017:
Was the original K or К?

I mean, just leave 'K' in English.

If you look at the amount more closely, you will see that the decimal point is used instead of the decimal comma (which should have been used).

By the way, $6.65 or RUB 291.65 (about $5) are both too low for a reasonable balance.

There was a fundamental defect in my version: Numbers in accounting documents are almost never rounded. Sorry for misleading you...
Note from asker:
I see your point!
This was a company on the verge of bankruptcy, so low balances are not unexpected.
Actually, it's more complicated, there's more than one company involved, so I wouldn't like to say whether this one was close to bankruptcy or not.
