In the context of knurling. I'd welcome help with the whole sentence:
Permette di accelerare lo spostamento delle barette nell'alloggio dei profili mentre i profili vengono disposti sul piano.

Allows the movement of (straight) knurls in the profile grooves to be speeded up while the sections are on a level surface.

I don't pretend to have any great knowledge in this area Rosalind but, in the absence of expert help, I'm guessing the "barrette" are "any of a series of small ridges or beads placed around the edge of a metal object" as my Eng. dictionary describes "knurl". Relevant websites show straight and diamond pattern knurls amongst others, so presumably "barrette" refers to the former. "Alloggio" is often "housing" I believe but, in this context "groove" might be more appropriate.

Many thanks again Russell. This was very close to my draft solution, although I'm still not 100% happy with either, partly because I can't find an example of a knurling machine on the web which mentions this feature and I can't really visualise it!
