intentionally Explanation: I think what the author is saying is that the artist uses this line that he draws on a map (?) as a "Leitfaden" that he then later follows by actually walking it through the city and drawing windows he sees every few minutes or so. So, in a sense it is an arbitrary line, but not completely since the artist later follows it. I would go with: "G.O intentionally draws a horizontal line through Vienna, then walks it, and draws a window ...." |

random, randomly Explanation: I agree with LittleBalu that the meaning here is 'arbitrary', but I prefer the word 'random'. Example sentence(s):

representative Explanation: G.O draws a representative horitonzal line across Vienna... He is basically doing the same thing Google is doing, but on a smaller scale. He makes his own version, an example, of "street view". -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 22 hrs (2010-06-07 11:28:42 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I do realize that I've restructured the sentence and used an adj. instead of an adv. - it's just that I thought "G.O. representatively draws a horizontal line..." sounded a bit clunky. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day5 hrs (2010-06-07 17:43:03 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I spelled horizontal wrong - how did I miss that? horrid tonsil Reference: http://thesaurus.com/browse/exemplary Reference: http://www.lexipedia.com/german/exemplarisch |
