Tom Thumb - now that is a completely different way of looking at it and may well be the answer. It is certainly the answer that makes the most sense in the context.

However, as has already been pointed out, we can't be sure because the term seems not to really exist and may just be an internal term used by the company. I have therefore gone back to the client for further clarification.

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. I will try to update this thread when I get an answer from the client.

I got to agree with David. We haven't got any indications. David you're right in claiming that the term Nachsteuerzusage doesn't exist as such. If you ask me, it could well be that the term itself is a part of the organization's Corporate Wording.

do we know whether this is in fact German, Swiss or Austrian tax law? I've never heard of these expressions in Germany, but then, I'm not an employee, either...

But you'll certainly have found out that this is in fact a word made up by the company itself, so why don't you contact them yourself, to find out exactly what they mean?

I'd say you won't find any established English expression for it.

Can't give you a bullet-proof answer, but to me it could well be that the obligation is on both sides, i.e. that the employer is obliged under German tax law to issue a warning to employees.

I'm not 100% sure if this will work for you, but I've seen this expression being used with tax returns. To me it sounds that the employees are obliged to sign / lodge a form/agreement before being entitled to receive ther supplementary tax.

This is about the tax to be paid (income tax and supplementary tax) by the employee, which cannot be calculated correctly unless the employee signs a data protection agreement. The sentence comes from a letter reminding the employee to sign the agreement. I hope that helps to provide more context. More than that I can't say.
