English term or phrase: maroonies
In a book I am translating, the author (a woman) describes the following scene:

We jump into the waterfall. I turn around to find Johnny (attractive young man) in his tightey maroonies. He grabs me and throws me high in the air...

What are maroonies? Swimwear? Underwear? Does the word refer to maroon as in brown?

Thanks for your help.

Unterhose
Explanation:
(maroon coloured) gets my my guess - or it may even be underpants + vest - on the basis of the following website:-

Carly, atleast your dad doesn't walk around the house in tighty whities...unless he does, then i feel your pain.

And i don't screen my calls. My eyes light up when i get a phone call, because i don't get many.

And I think the Superman reference here lends some confirmation to the underpants theory:

Books, These "Books" you speak of, do they have pictures? Heroes, Superman, because he wore his tighty maroonies on the outside! (just like my buddy ChopE) ...

agree  Nadine Kahn: In this case, I think it's "braune, kurze, enge Badehose", referring to "tighty-whities" or "briefs" which are underwear Or swimwear. According to Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Briefs
