Hello,
Any suggestions for the translation of the following sentence, which is the first sentence of an internet series.

Hace unos meses vino al barrio una reportera de un programa de televisión de esos que enseñan los barrios marginales al resto del país.

This is my attempt:

A few months ago, the neighborhood was visited by a female reporter from one of those television programmes that show disadvantaged areas to the rest of the country.

I'm not happy with the verb 'show' and was hoping someone could suggest an alternative. Many Thanks to whoever responds.

Jenni Lukac (X) Apr 30, 2011:
Big question here: Who is saying this? A man or a woman? What is his or age/occupation (if employed), character, etc. and what part does this character play in the plot?
Altogringo Apr 30, 2011:
feature I'm with Marjory, feature TO doesn't work, even taking television mentality into account. Re alternative to show, possibly expose which would play into a TV show expose, possibly spotlight as opposed to showcase. Showcase has too positive a sense and spotlight borders on that, too, but it could work in the sense of throwing light on.
IMO, you could get away with going literal and saying marginal neighborhoods, depending on the tone of the rest of the text.
Maria Kisic Apr 30, 2011:
feature Yes, feature is not the most suitable... on the other hand, we are talking TV - just an idea as for the sentence can be rearranged
Marjory Hord Apr 30, 2011:
feature I don't think one can feature something TO someone. (it is not ditransitive) I had thought of the word slums too.

draw the country's attention to disadvantaged or marginal areas

This is one option.

I don't think you need say 'rest of', and I think 'marginal' is a valid concept in English in such a context.
