No context, really; it just comes up in a list of rooms or areas in a home for retired priests:

I have only found it as a proper name. Any ideas?

Comment: "This ref. is what solved the mystery for me, and Maria was the first one to post it, so she gets the points. I ended up using "mirador," which is as ambiguous in English as it is in Spanish (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=mirador). However, I am pretty sure it's not a tower of any kind because of the photos I had of the building. Thank you all for your help!"

I'm building on the suggestions already made. In architecture, a lookout tower is often referred to as an "eagle's nest." From the references on the Internet, gurugu appears to be more than just a terrace -- any high elevation from which there is an expansive view. Maybe there's some connection with the mountain top where the guru sits, which would fit with the idea of a contemplative place for priests to stay (though "guru" is an Indian word, not arabic or Spanish...).
To maximize the dramatic ocean view, the house incorporates an eagle's nest – or
whale watching tower. There is also an extensive outdoor living area, ...

I probably didn\'t explain myself very well. I pretty much ruled out any connection between \"guru\" and Gurugu (if I try to print an accent in this format, my computer shuts down!). I had assumed from the outset, and from the Websites that I looked at, that Gurugu came into Spanish via Arabic. \"Guru,\" on the other hand, is an Indian word, so there\'s probably no connection, unless it dates back to early Sanskirt or proto-Indo-European.
