No more "Oops..." | Aug 25, 2010 |
I almost ticked the "Oops..." option, but then I remembered that I have just changed to a Mac, including a Time Machine, which kept making automatic back ups of all of my network all the time. I thought that was so annoying I had to download a feature from internet to calm the thing down so that it only makes one back up a day... But now I'm safe & happy

It is done daily, because it is done automatically. By using my old pc as a server, with a network drive, a simple briefcase on that drive which is updated at shutdown so easy:)

After trying out a few different solutions, I recently settled on Dropbox. It's a cloud storage solution that keeps everything backed up pretty well. It's not perfect but so far I've had none of the serious problems (files disappearing, reverting to old versions, etc.) I had with another application that will rename nameless. If anyone's interested in giving it a go, write to me and I'll give you a referrer link, so we both get a bit of extra storage for free! (It comes with 2GB free storage, I ... (It comes with 2GB free storage, I think) I also use an external hard disk to backup every night, but I definitely feel better knowing that I can get to everything online, from any computer (eventually!). ▲ Collapse
(Automatic) daily Cloud storage | Aug 25, 2010 |
I use a service which is set on automatic back-up every 24 hours and I was so greatful for that when the screen of my laptop split and the computor was at the computor store for fix up during 2 months. I had access to everything, my invoices and book-keeping, all current and past jobs, TM:s, so the computor problem was no big deal. I have used a similar service for 3 years and every once in a while it has been useful for one reason or the other. When I travel I can access whatever I want, whenev... I cannot believe the number of people who don't back up their files! I am using Norton Online Backup, which automatically backs up everything daily. On top of that, I often backup my current projects to a memory stick, just in case ...

I used to do backups every now and then when I thought of it - perhaps once a month. I'd had one or two hard drives fail and could recover them pretty well by slaving the drive on another PC, so I thought it didn't matter too much. Oh dropbox is awesome! | Aug 26, 2010 |
Owen Munday wrote: After trying out a few different solutions, I recently settled on Dropbox. . Amen brother! Other translators, you really should consider Dropbox. Cost-free to use for the first 1gig. It synchronizes across multiple machines, AND online. Cross platform, so you can use it on Windows, Macintosh, or even your favourite *nix platform. I use it to synchronize files across several computers that I link together using synergy at home. I can simply pickup the laptop and take it out and I still have access to my files. lose, damage, and whatever else that may happen to the laptop. I still have the automatically updated files on all my other computers linked to Dropbox. It isn't supposed to be a backup solution, but the ease of use and resulting safety net of data backup is fantastic value for money. (that is, nearly free!) (this hearty endorsement of dropbox is non-commercial and without any financial incentive to the writer. Although it may seem like it)
whenever i get a new translation, I automatically do a backup!
I use a desktop and a laptop at the same time, so I „backup“ every time I copy my files onto the other PC (which comes sometimes a couple times a day and sometimes 3-4 times a week).
