A short job (2,900 words, Spanish to English) on preparing countries to participate carbon emission reductions programs. Now I'm working on an 11,518-word document from Portuguese to English on poverty reduction in the Brazilian state of Ceará, with focus on results-based public sector administration, family assistance, job skills development for highschoolers, and water security. Lots of deep theory on the societal contributors to inequality. Recently finished a budget document; now I'm working on internal audits. A series of tricky legal documents from Portuguese into English: Abstracts of findings by the Superior and Supreme Federal Courts. Legal is not my thing, but it ended up in my lap. (edited) Now I"m on a long job, Spanish to English, on a program for testing the elimination of schistosomiasis. This is familiar territory for me because I have had past assignments on schistosomiasis: an entire book and another large project for a journal issue dedicated to the subject. (edited) Back at work after a month off for needed R&R. Immediately received two new jobs. The first is from Portuguese on the improvement of water supply in Angola. Taking off most of November -- a much-needed rest. 3 users I now have two more articles on primary health care. These are longer than the previous ones and the source language is Portuguese. This series is for a publication marking the 50th anniversary of the Alma-Ata conference that first called on countries around the world to start introducing primary health care into their service delivery structure. First day back from vacation I accepted two long journal articles on primary health care (in Spanish). Loose deadline. I have a lot going on right now. A very long report on the elimination of malaria in Argentina, similar to one I finished last January for Paraguay (Spanish to English). It's over 100 pages, but I'm splitting it because I'm going on a vacation in mid-September! This week I'm doing a 15,000-word document from Spanish on the training of educators in the field of academic midwifery on the subjects of clinical simulation and capacity-based evaluation. 1 user (edited) Last week I translated some documents from Portuguese on approval issues with herbal medicines. The length ranged from 8 to 33 pages and the work involved both translation and editing of original English by non-English-speaking authors. I started it a while ago and it will keep me busy through January. Slow-going because periods are often missing at the ends of sentences.
(edited) Recently finished a ginormous document on dam safety in Brazil (from Portuguese). It took me 6 weeks. The original was a PDF file with tiny print; my eyes are still recovering. (edited) A paper on "maternal waiting homes," also known as "homes for expectant mothers." The idea is to provide residential care for women in remote areas with high-risk pregnancies. The concept has already deeply slashed the rates for maternal and neonatal death in developing countries.
(edited) Delivered the big job on health in the Americas this morning and an hour later was given two more jobs, this time on health and ethnicity. The bigger one is 27,000 words.
