Source text - English The Nord Stream Pipeline is currently the biggest infrastructure project in the Baltic Sea region, requiring a customised logistics concept to ensure that it will be built safely and with minimal impacts on the sensitive ecosystem of the Baltic Sea.
The Nord Stream Pipeline system is made up of two 1,224-kilometre long pipelines that will be situated almost parallel to one another. Over 200,000 concrete coated pipes will form the pipelines. The manufacture of these pipes, followed by concrete coating, storage, and finally the transport to the pipelay vessels is all part of the logistics chain developed by Nord Stream. In July 2008, Nord Stream and EUPEC signed a contract for the concrete coating of the pipes and logistics services for both lines of the Nord Stream Pipeline.

The Pierce Field consists of a Forties Sandstone reservoir which overlies a potential Chalk Formation reservoir. The 2 reservoirs are separated stratigraphically by Lista, Maureen and Andrew Formation shales and sands. A smaller Jurassic Fulmar Formation lead has also been identified underneath South Pierce. The Forties Sandstone is the only reservoir presently on production. The Forties was deposited by the last major phase of turbidite fan aggradation in the Central Graben during the Late Thanetian. In the vicinity of Pierce the Forties succession is characterised by a more heterogeneous mixture of turbidite sandstones, siltstones and mudstones. The Forties Member is 200-600ft thick over Pierce and consists of graded beds of fine to very fine sandstone between 0.2m and 2m thick. Petrographically, the sandstones are sub-arkosic under the classification scheme of Pettijohn (1975), having 80% framework grains on average.

Составляющие Проекта преимущественно не связаны с отчуждением больших площадей естественных местообитаний. Разработанные мероприятия по снижению негативных воздействий, связанных с изменением среды обитания животных, включают:
o сокращение до минимума нарушения почвенного и растительного покрова;
o безотлагательную рекультивацию нарушенных земель;
o оперативную ликвидацию любых технологических траншей с целью снижения их воздействия на диких животных как земляных ловушек;
o выполнение работ небольшими участками для локализации единовременного воздействия;
o спасение и выпуск в естественные местообитания животных, попавших в траншеи и другие земляные ловушки;
o ограничение строительства и движения автотранспорта в период отела популяции сайгака.
Как охранное мероприятие при устройстве ВЛ предусмотрены меры по оснащению опор ВЛ птицезащитными устройствами из диэлектрических материалов.
При прохождении трассы ВЛ в районах массовой миграции и гнездования крупных птиц намечена установка «холостых» изоляторов на траверсе.
Translation - English 1.2 PROTECTION OF LAND ECOSYSTEM BIODIVERSITY
The Project’s elements do not cause, in their most part, withdrawal of large natural habitat areas. The activities aimed to mitigate adverse impacts related to animal habitat changes include:
o maximal possible reduction of disturbance of the soil and vegetation cover;
o urgent reclamation of the disturbed lands;
o urgent backfilling of any technological trenches, in order to reduce their impact on animals (land traps);
o work performance by small sections, in order to localize the simultaneous impacts;
o rescuing and release into the natural habitats of the animals trapped in the trenches or other land traps;
o limitation of construction works and traffic during the Saiga fawning.
Protection measures during HL construction include equipping of HL supports with bird-protection devices made of dielectric materials.
It is planned to install the cross-slide float insulators in the places where the HL route crosses the areas of mass migration and nesting of large bird species.
