مركبٌ مهاجِر
كنا في مركب
مجهول
وبلا أضواء
وكان القمر
يُدَلّي
عيناً وقحة
محايدة
وباردة ..
والريح جموحة
كأنها تتصاعد
من مختنق
بين جبال .
كان المركب
يتخلع
ويذوب
فوق
الماء الذي كان
يشرب النساء والرجال
والأطفال.
كانت النسوة
ينغمسن
ولا يعدن..
والرجال
علقوا
في شفة الماء
ثم غابوا..
الأطفال طفت
أصواتهم قليلاً
ثم ماتوا..
كنت أطفو
فوق خشبة
تقاوم الضراوة
وألهث
لنشقة
هواء
لكن الماء
كان يسد أنفي.
غير بعيدة
وقريبة من العين
كان سيدة
أوْلَمَ عليها السمك
ناهشاً
حليب وسكر ثدييها..
والدوامات حولي
ظننتها جياداً غافلة
لكنها في لحظة
فاجأتني حوافرها
ثقيلة كانت تركض
الجياد..
كنت
ألهث من أجل نشقة
هواء
ولكن...
تقترب الآن دقات الرمل
من صفر المسافة .
والدوامات حولي
فخاخ
أو جياد
تسحبني
بحوافرها
الباردة
أمام رعشة
الماء
وارتباك السمك .
Translation - English Abu Bakr Khaal
Migrant Boat (or Titanic)
we were
on a nameless
and lightless boat
the moon
was casting
an insolent gaze
dispassionate
and cold…
and the wind was unruly
as if ascending
from an abyss
amidst the ridges.
The boat was
splintering
and disintegrating
above
The water who was
imbibing women, men,
and children.
Women were
plunging
and not returning…
and the men
were stranded
on the surface of the water
before disappearing…
Children’s voices
floated for a while
before they died
I was floating
on a wood board
fighting the fury
panting
for a breath
of air
but the water
was filling my nostrils.
Not very far from me
where the eye can see
there was a woman
upon whom feasted the fish
gnawing
her breasts for milk and honey…
And the whirlwinds around me
I thought… were steeds… aloof
they took me by surprise
their hooves…
hefty… trotting
they were…
And I was
panting for a breath
of air.
But…
the sand beat is nearing
the end now.
And the whirlwinds around me
like nooses
or steeds
are pulling me down
With their
Cold hooves
un-stirred by the tremor
Of the ocean
And the agitation of the fish.
