Они выполнены аркой (рамкой) и способны сканировать человека или габаритные объекты полностью. Они также бнаруживают сплавы в диэлектрических и слабопроводимых веществах (дерево, пластик, одежда).
Работа устройства основывается на применении радиоволн. Одна стенка посылает специально сгенерированный радиосигнал к другой, которая его принимает и направляет обратно. Материалы обладают сопротивляемостью электромагнитным и радиоволнам, поэтому сигнал, проходя сквозь них, теряет силу или вовсе не проходит.
Встречаясь с предметом на теле человека, двигающегося сквозь рамку детектора, радиоволны отражаются от него и возвращаются быстрее, чем другие сигналы. Устройство фиксирует время отражения, если скорость отражения свидетельствует о металлической преграде — срабатывает световая и звуковая сигнализация.

The outstanding example of such a device is an arched (walk-through) metal detector. It is considerably advanced to fit into the specific conditions of the facilities in which it is used.

Arched (walk-through) metal detectors are the fixed devices (prefabricated or finished), capable of detecting the metal objects carried through them. They are made in the form of an arch (frame) and equipped with the ability to perform a full scanning of a human body or any other dimensional object of a similar size. What is more, the detectors have the capacity to identify the alloys in various dielectric and low conductive materials (i.e. wood, plastic, clothing, etc.), thus significantly improving the security level.
The operation of the appliance is based on the utilization of radio waves. One of the walls sends a specially generated radio signal to the other, which receives and sends it back, therefore providing a continuous process of the wave reflection. The materials having a high resistance to electromagnetic and radio waves partially or completely interrupt the passage, so the signal going through them either loses its strength or does not pass at all.
On identifying the resistant subject on the human body moving through the detector frame, the radio waves are reflected from it notably faster than other signals. The device immediately captures the reflection period and consequently, if the rate of it indicates a metal barrier, the system activates light and sound alarm.
