La expectación rodeaba al regreso a la carretera del presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, en el que sería el primer acto de
campaña tras la irrupción de la pandemia del coronavirus. Su equipo había anticipado multitudes para su primer mitin en Tulsa
(Oklahoma), y hasta se decidió instalar un escenario en el exterior del recinto para que los que se quedaran fuera pudieran al menos ver a
su héroe. Pero lo de la noche del sábado, al menos en términos de asistencia, fue un auténtico pinchazo. Y centenares de adolescentes
usuarios de la red social TikTok y fans del K-pop, el pop coreano que arrastra multitudes en Internet, se han atribuido parte de la
responsabilidad.
Muchos usuarios de TikTok y los conocidos como Kpopers aseguraron haber registrado a centenares de miles de asistentes para el mitin
de Trump, sin ninguna intención de asistir pero con ganas de que se vieran localidades vacías, después de que la campaña de reelección
del presidente invitara a sus seguidores a registrarse con sus móviles para obtener entradas gratis para el evento. Populares cuentas
de Kpopers viralizaron la iniciativa, que se convirtió en tendencia en TikTok, la popular red social de propiedad china, con millones de
vídeos de usuarios invitando a otros a registrarse para el evento de Trump.

Expectation surrounded the comeback of the United States of America President, Donald Trump, in which was supposed to be the first campaign event after the interruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic. His team anticipated big crowds for the first rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They even decided to install an outdoor stage so that people left outside the event had at least a chance to watch their hero. However, the Saturday night event was a total flop, at least in attendance terms. Hundreds of teenagers who are users of the TikTok social network and K-pop fans, which is dragging masses on the internet, have taken part of the responsibility.
Many TikTok users and those known as K-poppers claimed they registered hundreds of thousands of attendees for Trump’s rally with no intention of assisting but just to see empty localities. This action was made after the President’s reelection campaign invited his followers to register using mobile devices to obtain free tickets for the event. Popular K-popper accounts viralized the initiative and it rapidly became a trending topic on TikTok, the popular social network of Chinese ownership, with millions of videos inviting users to register for Trump’s event.

“La tecnología siempre gana”. La inquietante frase la pronuncia el historiador de la ciencia
José Manuel Sánchez Ron, vicedirector de la Real Academia Española (RAE), para referirse al
poder que tienen las máquinas que nos rodean y los programas informáticos que usamos a
diario sobre nuestro lenguaje. Para que los humanos sean partícipes de esa victoria, la RAE, y
con ella las otras 22 instituciones hermanas de la lengua castellana en todo el mundo, van a
poner en marcha un proyecto, denominado Lengua Española e Inteligencia Artificial (LEIA),
con el que se quiere domesticar a las máquinas. El primer paso se dará el viernes, cuando los
representantes de la Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española (Asale), reunidos en un
congreso en Sevilla, firmen un acuerdo con Telefónica, Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon
y Google para que estos gigantes tecnológicos empleen las herramientas de las que disponen
aquellas y entrenen en un buen español, “académico", apostilla el director de la RAE, Santiago
Muñoz Machado, a las máquinas Como advierte Sánchez Ron, “en no mucho tiempo habrá más
máquinas que hablen español que hispanohablantes” (hoy 580 millones).
"Este proyecto no tiene precedentes en otras lenguas, ni existirá en ellas porque la española es
la única que tiene un regulador global, la Asale", afirma Muñoz Machado, que pone como
ejemplo de base para esta iniciativa los contestadores de los teléfonos y otros artilugios "a los
que tienen acceso los niños". "Es un problema cuyas dimensiones aún no sabemos". Al que
suma otra pelea en la que debe fajarse el español con las máquinas como aliadas: "Hay que
ocupar el espacio que tiene el inglés en ellas, si no lo hacemos, quebrantaríamos la igualdad
entre las personas que tienen acceso a conocer ambos idiomas y las que no".

The first step will be taken this Friday, when representatives of the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language (ASALE, Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española) will gather in a congress in Seville to sign an agreement with Telefónica, Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, and Google. The idea is for this technology giants to use the tools provided by these institutions and to train machines in a good “academical” Spanish, added Santiago Muñoz Machado, director of the RAE. As warned by Sánchez Ron: “In no time, there will be more machines speaking Spanish than Spanish speakers” (580 million today).
“This project has no precedents in other languages and there won’t be one as Spanish is the only language that has a global regulatory body: The ASALE,” declared Muñoz Machado who set as a base example of this initiative the answering machines and other devices “to which children have access to.” “This is a problem of unknown dimensions” that is now joining to another battle in which Spanish will have to take a stand with machines as its allies: “We have to take the space English has in them, if we don’t do so, we will be breaking the equality between people who have the access to learn both languages and those who don’t.”

When Dr. Elliott Haut and his team at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore designed their blood clot prevention protocol back in 2006, they didn’t expect to discover systemic gender bias. But the data were clear and the implications were alarming: Women who were trauma patients at Johns Hopkins Hospital were in considerably greater danger of dying of preventable blood clots than men.
Why? Because doctors were less likely to provide them with the appropriate blood clot prevention treatment. At Hopkins, as at many hospitals, both men and women were receiving treatment at less than perfect rates, but while 31 percent of male trauma patients were failing to get proper clot prevention, for women, the rate was 45 percent. That means women were nearly 50 percent more likely to miss out on blood clot prevention.
