Source text - English Peer tutoring is a student-centred activity, but it does not begin with the student—it begins with the teacher modelling reflective knowledge-building and showing students how to monitor their own understanding, correct misunderstandings, and elaborate on known materials. Students then need their own space in which to work through sessions at their own pace. Peer tutoring works because both the tutor and tutored are actively rethinking, reorganising, and reflecting on materials, acting as their own and each others’ teacher. They are able to ask questions of each other and provide more elaborative and metacognitive responses to their questions.
Translation - Portuguese A monitoria é uma atividade centrada no aluno, mas que não começa com ele — começa com o professor elaborando um processo construção de conhecimento reflexivo e mostrando aos alunos como monitorar seus próprios conhecimentos, corrigir seus erros e se desenvolver com base em materiais conceituados. Os alunos, então, vão precisar de seu próprio espaço onde possam realizar as atividades de cada sessão em seu próprio ritmo. A monitoria funciona porque tanto o monitor quanto o monitorado estão ativamente repensando, reorganizando e refletindo sobre os materiais, agindo como se fossem professores de si mesmos e de outros alunos. Eles podem fazer perguntas uns aos outros e fornecer respostas mais construtivas e metacognitivas a essas perguntas.
