Source text - Dutch In de Verenigde Staten zijn de scholen weer begonnen. Voor honderdduizenden leerlingen betekent dat niet alleen nieuwe kleren, nieuwe klassen, nieuwe vrienden, maar ook een nieuwe confrontatie met de gewelddadige realiteit van wat wel de Blackboard Jungle wordt genoemd.
Honderden scholen hebben de vakantie gebruikt om metaaldetectors en bewakingscamera's te laten installeren. In de vijftig grootste schooldistricten van het land hebben scholen nu apparatuur aangeschaft voor het opsporen van wapens, variërend van aardappelschilmesjes tot automatische machinegeweren. Miljoenen dollars zijn uitgegeven aan bewakingsapparatuur in plaats van aan boeken of computers. In sommige steden hebben de directeuren van scholen de kastjes van leerlingen laten verwijderen om te voorkomen dat die worden gebruikt als opslagplaats voor wapens en drugs.

Translation - English Schools have started again in the United States. For hundred thousands of students that means new clothes, new classes, and new friends, but it also means a new confrontation with the violent reality sometimes called the Blackboard Jungle.
Hundreds of schools used the holidays to install metal detectors and surveillance cameras. At schools in fifty of the largest school districts in the country, equipment has been bought to search for weapons, varying from potato peelers to automatic machine guns. Millions of dollars were spent on surveillance cameras instead of books and computers. In some cities, school directors removed student lockers to prevent them from being used as storage places for weapons and drugs.
Other schools made agreements with the police or security services to perform unexpected searches for weapons. During classes, in nearly every school in the US security guards walk the corridors.

I am an experienced translator located in the Canary Islands. I started off as a bilingual web search evaluator in 2013, while living in South America and learning Spanish and some Portuguese. Then it progressed into translation work, and in 2014 I started to focus only on translation work and translation related projects. Since then I have become experienced in subtitling, transcription, post-editing and translation. Apart from this, I am also available for research related jobs and I occasionally manage multilingual translation projects for local clients. I have a great interest in literature and cultures. And in the coming years I hope to specialise in the fields of legal translation and sustainability related translation.
