I spent two years in Thailand as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While there, I had several occasions where I interpreted for a church official in front of a large audience/congregation. While in Thailand I participated in teaching free English classes.
Also, since then I have participated in the aforementioned church's translation program "The Vineyard" where I have helped with translating Institute Manuals into Thai.
I am currently studying Arabic as my 7th language (English, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Thai, Laotian, Japanese, Cairene Arabic) and plan on getting a BA in Linguistics, then on to a PhD possibly to teach Thai/Japanese/Arabic at the university level.
This past Spring/Summer 2012, I went to Japan to do an internship to teach English there, and I am also taking many linguistic courses currently in addition to ones which I have successfully completed already. |
