Biography:
My name is Catherine Garsed, I am 23 and am currently living and working in Brno, Czech Republic. I graduated from Oxford University with an Honours degree in German and Czech in Summer 2010 and have now established myself as a freelance translator here in Brno.

Experience:
I completed a 5-month internship at a translation agency in Berlin (translating from German to English) during my university studies, followed by a 2-month internship with an international development NGO in Prague, where my main responsibilities were translating materials from Czech to English.

In addition to consistently high marks in translation exercises throughout my university course, I also entered the Advanced German Translation paper in my final examinations, for which I gained a First.

Translation:
My translation experience covers the following areas:

Proofreading:
I have a wide range of experience in proofreading, including:
- Academic papers/theses
- Literary work
- Publications
- General texts

I am currently establishing a client base for both translation and proofreading, with my main clients, at present, being based in the Czech Republic.

Quality:
I lay great emphasis on the quality of my translations, both for the satisfaction and peace of mind of the customer and for my own integrity as a translator. I do not submit work that I myself would not be happy to publish. I am particularly focused on providing idiomatic English, so that the translation very much stands alone as a text in its own right, rather than being a weak reproduction of the source material. Thus the customer receives a text that is concise, fit for purpose and conveys precisely the desired message.

I include feedback with my work, where necessary, to ensure transparency and trust in the working relationship with the customer.
