Dutch to English: From art catalogue text about Orhan Pamuk General field: Art/Literary
Translation - English In a painting, there is no place for earthly reality, for earthly matters or earthly traces of a terrestrial image maker. A painting does not serve to give us an image of a mundane reality that we can see beyond the painting. Likewise, the painting should not betray even the slightest trace of whoever was holding the brushes, however brilliant he may be. The art that we have practised since the Renaissance, art that depicts reality and flaunts its literal and figurative signature, is from this Ottoman perspective criminal art.
