"I found this course extremely useful: the information is presented in a very clear manner, the structure is easy to follow, what helps the better understanding. There are a lot of interesting tips and pieces of advice that can be introduced immediately in the marketing strategy. Thank you!"
"Despite my initial reservations (due to bad experiences with other Proz.com courses), this course proved to be highly relevant, very informative and well-structured, filling in a lot of gaps in my knowledge and giving me a firm action plan for crafting my marketing strategy. I would be more than happy to take another course designed by Johanna in the future."
"I really enjoyed this course. It gave me so much useful information and I was able to find information I could not find before.
"I really enjoyed the career development and computer training sections and thought the 'example of a functional resume' really useful. Everything was detailed, well explained and I am glad I too this course. Thank you!"
"I have used the advice and guidelines given in the course to create my own marketing strategies, and by doing so, have learned more about what I can and cannot offer as a service provider. I recommend this course to everyone in the beginning stages of their business or those that are still not clear as to promoting what they have to offer in an efficient way. "
"Thank you for allowing me to have a good ''glimpse'', (so far I have gone to your course five times), and find an explanation for ''Marketing the right way, goods and services. Though most of us are aware of what is the right thing to do by the client or the buyers of services of translated documentation, to see it explained point by point, as you do, only serves to confirm, among other things, items that you name, that Marketing and its techniques are not for the shy or the dishonest professional. Unfortunately some sellers and buyers of services do not get to know this; mostly due to high cost/price competition; what a difference it would make to everyone if loyalty was the guide to follow by providers of services and costumers, rather than the low price and the constant swapping of professionals. "
"I very much enjoyed the course which has opened up marketing strategies and ideas to me which I had previously not thought about or had not got round to implementing. This course gave me the impetus to do so."
"Let's just say that I'm happy I didn't pay for this outright (I got it as part of a promotion when I became a paid member). It had a few helpful tips or ideas here and there, but overall it felt kind of obvious (with tips like "you should not give your customer less than he expects" and "you should consider getting trained as a translator" and "translators need cultural awareness"). Maybe more information on statistics would be useful: how many clients search Google vs. Facebook to find translators? What kind of information do they look for on the site? Are ProZ outsourcers surveyed on how they choose their translators? If so, what do they say? The webinar I had about the benefits of becoming a paid ProZ member was free and had much more useful information. "
"The course contains all basics of marketing but not much an experienced translator can learn from. Very good for all those who are stepping into our world now and don't have an idea of how to operate."
"I am not sure if it was a PC error or not, but the last two modules were not moving forward correctly. They continuously repeated themselves without allowing me to actually view the slides. This issue had nothing to do with the trainer. She was excellent."
"The course “Marketing techniques for translators” would be very useful for newcomers. For an experienced translator it would not be particularly relevant. I’d like to make one comment:
Module 1 – image 3/6: I take issue with the notion that a client can expect a “Higher quality” at “Lower prices”. This only diminishes our profession and the knowledge and experience a translator brings to a project. In my view “Higher quality” and “Lower prices” simply do not go hand in hand; rather, they reinforce a client’s misperceptions. We should not sell ourselves cheaply!
Furthermore, the author or producer of this session may want to look at Module 4 and correct the following:
Heading: “Quality is not posible (sic) without your client”
Image 3/6 (circle-bottom right): “I expect … to be sure work is been (sic) done”.
As a new member, I thank ProZ.com for offering this session as a gift and for the opportunity to view its contents.
"The course was OK, especially for beginners who have not thought about essential aspects yet. Still, I would have appreciated some more in-depth information for freelancers with more work experience."
"The course is very comprehensive and well organized, but seems more oriented to people getting started in the freelance business. As someone with 10 years of experience and a decent set of regular clients (agencies), I was nonetheless disappointed that the Interactive Marketing section was not available on a complementary basis as part of ProZ's December offer to members."
"I was expecting something else, but the contents I found just reminded me and refreshed what I already knew. If you have been some months in the translation market and have had a minimum contact with other translators (forums, social networks, etc...), I am afraid you will not learn anything new.
However, it could be interesting for people considering to enter the translation market, as an introduction."
