Hi you all!
This is the first time I start a forum but today I decided to do so because there is something that has me really confused.
There is a medical-related question that was posted (and closed) today, in which, even though my answer was the only one that got "agrees" (several of them), another question was selected. That wouldn't be a problem per se because askers have the right to select whichever answer they consider to be correct (although, as a doctor I was 100% sure abou

Hi you all!

There is a medical-related question that was posted (and closed) today, in which, even though my answer was the only one that got "agrees" (several of them), another question was selected. That wouldn't be a problem per se because askers have the right to select whichever answer they consider to be correct (although, as a doctor I was 100% sure about my answer). What really baffles me is that even though the asker chose another answer as correct, he/she "decided" to use my answer (completely different from the other one) for the glossary.
I just want to stress that is not a problem of who got the "points" but just the absurdity of it all.
Thanks in advance for your opinions.

In this case, it seems that the asker accidentally clicked the wrong selection and not the one that s/he meant to. S/he can contact a moderator and ask to have it fixed.

Can someone correct me if I am wrong! Mar 21, 2007

Hi Roxanna and GoodWords:

Valid and useful thread. Firstly, I for one am all for correct entries in the glossary which is an invaluable tool for the entire community and care should be taken to ensure that entries are accurate. In fact, I was looking back at one just now!

Secondly, and it has happened to me (too often) and I know my answer(s) is/are correct and other have been chosen. Good point Roxanna, the points do not matter, but rather the spirit of the wonderfu

Finally, and the real reason for my reply, I believe there is a facility (the KOG entry) (look where the glossary entry is and at the right there is a facility which I believe you as the answerer can make an input - the facility allows you to comment, to agree or disagree with the glossary entry - try it!). Can a competent authority please advise us on this?

Regards.

Hi Taña,
What exactly is your question?
The feature you mention exists but in Roxanna's case the glossary entry is correct (it is the term she suggested).
Maria

Frustrating Mar 21, 2007

Hi Roxanna

I understand your point, but let me tell you what happened to me.

I made a suggestion, believing that it was right (of course).
My answer was chosen. When I received the congratulations email I went back to the question and noticed another answer. I checked it and could notice that the other one was right, not mine.
I gave the other answer an agree and wrote to the asker explaining that I could open the question in order to let him close it again,

I gave the other answer an agree and wrote to the asker explaining that I could open the question in order to let him close it again, giving the points to the other person (this is possible when the person who got the points accepts to do so).
He never answered.
My power was limited to editing the glossary but I was sorry for the other person.
What else can we do?

Dear Maria:

Yes, of course ... in this case, I have no point! In my haste, I "miswrote!". No seriously, though, the other side of the coin is that there are cases where glossary entries are not what they should be and what I was trying to say is that there is a facility which allows one to comment, agree or disagree. This is so, isn't it?

Thanks for your useful remarks (and I am not trying to my facetious!). I really must go to my bed instead of chatting foolishness

Yes, pressed the wrong button Mar 21, 2007

The asker of the question admits later on that he/she pressed the wrong button, by saying the following: I'm so sorry, this is my first time using this forum, there's so much information I inadvertently rated XXXXXX as the best answer, when I had found your answer as the best. I corrected this later, but I cannot see the change on the page. Please accept my apologies, and thank you very, very much for your help.

The asker needs to tell the answerer of the current chosen answer that he/she chose that answer by mistake. Then, after getting the other answerer's permission, the asker should notify the moderator that he/she desires to give the point to someone else.

Honest mistakes happen all the time and the good thing about this is that the asker entered the correct entry in the glossary.

Not in this case but... Mar 21, 2007

It could happen that one answer was right in the asker's particular context but another answer was "best" for a more general context.

So, I can see how an asker could legitimately pick one answer as most helpful and another answer for the glossary.

Terry.

Apologies accepted. Mar 21, 2007

Good morning to all,

Thanks for taking the time to answer and empathize.
I'm just turning on my computer this morning, and I just read the email form the asker explaining what happened.
Mistakes do happen, and again, for me it was not a matter of the points but to see my answer in the glossary even though it was not "the chosen one".

Best regards to all of you girls!
