I work only weekdays (exceptions are almost non-existent) and although I tend to think I work 20 days in an average month, when I started to think about it, I do take at least 4-5 whole weeks off in any year, plus the odd day or two here and there, so I actually work considerably less - only 15-20 days per month. | | |
There is no such thing as an average month! I have been translating for over 30 years and more often than not I don’t know how next week or next month will be work-wise. Some months I work every single day, including weekends and holidays, others as little as 10/15 days. It depends: workloads are quite variable in our profession… | | | neilmac Spain Local time: 14:24 Spanish to English + ...
More or less. I tend to do something work-related almost every day of the year, even if it's just checking my e-mails to see if any new jobs have come in. Or a bit of admin, tidying up my files, etc. When I was younger, I used to spend a lot more time going out and socialising, which in the culture I come from, means drinking and engaging in other activities not always conducive to a smoothly-running and healthy working life. Work is very rare, because of the crisis in Brazil. This crisis has been around for at least 10 years and shows no sign of improving. | | | Henry Schroeder United States Local time: 09:24 Member (2002) German to English + ... Other: 25-28 | Jul 31, 2018 |
There needs to be one more category: 25-28. I would love one day off per week (considered a day not spent at the computer), but it continues to be unrealistic. | | | Other: It varies | Aug 1, 2018 |
In 2017 I went over 300 days straight without a single break. This year I've had more breaks but also more RUSH jobs that kept me working longer days. | | | Kay Denney France Local time: 14:24 French to English
It depends entirely on my workload. I was away in July but kept working. I prefer to work a little bit every day (at times when others are still asleep or not available for holiday activities) than work all-out one day then have days that are completely free. August has started out a whole lot more relaxed with very little on my plate, I shall be going away for a short while without Internet connection, so I won't be working nearly as much. I live in Brazil and I have a full schedule, but mostly with clients abroad. You may be using the wrong channels. I work every day, but of course I have some days off (no jobs) regularly. However, my average volume in the past three years has been around 3000 words per day, so that means, even with days off, I offset the volumes in the regular working days, because a 3000 word averge per day is pretty high, IMO. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: How many days do you work in an average month?
