I start my day with a good cup of coffee and two Pall Malls on my balcony, preparing myself and raise my blood pressure (90/60 usually.

I'm not sure what a translation platform is... but I organize my translations at least a day in advance. I also start the day with two cigarettes and coffee and spend an hour before I start working reading the news, my horoscope and Facebook so that I don't need the need to look at them again until at least lunchtime.

The only 'platform' I work with is an online setup belonging to one of my direct non-agency clients, which I access to download SW strings to be translated, then upload them again once the work is done.

As for my 'organisation', I tend to try to work according to my clients' deadline priorities. However, my own priorites can change at any time. For example today, I wanted to (funny how if I say that I had 'scheduled/planned' it, it sounds more professional, right?) finish revising and correcting a rather long thesis for someone. However, this morning another email appeared from a different client, asking for a quick translation/correction of a couple of texts, only 4 pages, so I'll change my priorities and do that first, to 'get it out of the way'.

In general, I think some people like to organise everything neatly and others just seem to muddle through. I think I fall into the 2nd camp. And anyway, "The best laid schemes o' mice an' men / Gang aft agley"..."

I always start my day by making my breakfast: orange juice with a touch of lime, toast, tea and scrambled eggs followed by an espresso coffee while watching the news, then I take a shower, look at my email and here we go again... No need of any platform for that!

The closest I come to an organizer is an Excel sheet listing what projects I've accepted to work on, what I've finished and what's to invoice at the end of the month. THAT I check and update at least once a day.

As for "starting the day", I applaud the coffee option.

Doesn't organising your work through a platform mean you're somehow dependent on it? As a freelancer I'm responsible for organising my own workflow, and I do that with one main Excel spreadsheet and a couple of others that I refer to from time to time.

I have received and delivered files via client platforms in the past, although none of my current clients work that way. Almost all of my clients first found me on ProZ.com, but only as the initial meeting point. We don't organise any

I start the day by switching on 1) the computer and 2) the kettle. I feed the 2 cats and 2 dogs (the cats being fed on top of the fridge or the wardrobe so the dogs can't get their food). Then have 2 coffees while reading e-mails. Respond to e-mails and, depending on urgency of job in hand, start work in pyjamas or else have a shower, get dressed and start working...I usually have nothing to eat for about an hour, or more. If there is nothing too urgent I'll take the dogs for a walk or throw a b... See more

I don't "organise" my work as such, nothing on paper anyway and definitely not on a "platform", but work according to the next deadline...

On a side note...I stopped smoking back in 2005 but used to start my days then with 2 ciggies and 2 coffees so can certainly relate to that! Back then I had to rush to shower, dress and drive (with another cigarette or two en route and maybe some toast) to the school in which I was teaching so I was convinced the ciggies were necessary:-) and they were very difficult to give up! I still get cravings sometimes when I see people lighting up! But, I got a gum infection in 2005 (having smacked my face off the ground and knocked out a tooth) and was told I'd lose all my teeth if I didn't stop smoking so it was really a no-brainer...

I stopped smoking 30 years ago after a serious health problem and even after all this while I still have cravings from time to time, mainly after a good meal. During the first weeks, I used to follow smokers on the street so that I could smell it… In the very beginning, I also had to stop drinking my beloved espresso because it triggered my nicotine craving. Fortunately those days are long gone!

Googling "translation platform" I found various sites that addressed themselves to translation customers, not translators. It's an odd question, given that most translators so far (myself included) never even heard of such a thing.

I start my day by having a good breakfast and seeing what work the day holds, and then organizing myself accordingly.... at my own desktop at my own location where everything is secure and accessible.

what's a translation platform? As to organizing my work in advance, this is mostly impossible. I often receive short translations during the day, to be done ASAP.

My 'platform' is a piece of paper and a pen. I just love the feeling of crossing things off the list when I've finished them. And, like everyone else, a cup of coffee.

Does the question consider we always finish our translation jobs by the end of the day, and start new ones on the next morning? Does it consider we always receive new jobs at the end of the day or early next morning?

Our reality is (IMO):

1. We receive new jobs any day, any time. We organize them as soon as we receive them or as soon as we complete the previous job.

2. Our day starts by resuming where we left it the night before, as if you just took a break

2. Our day starts by resuming where we left it the night before, as if you just took a break to sleep. Most of us start our day by reading e-mails, taking a tour in ProZ, then start translating.

3. When we receive a new job (those who use CATs), we import the entire file(s) to the platform, then format them or prepare them, and start working. There is no way we can always do that when we start our day. We do it when it's required.

And before anyone says I'm setting general rules based on my experience, please note the "IMO" in capital letters above. This is all IMO. And of course the question is considering your working day, after breakfast, shower, coffee, cigarrette, or whatever. Although the question isn't very smart, I don't think it would be so generic in this forum.
