There was no 'I'm baffled' option.

I wish I could understand the analogy. Would this be a Polish saying by any chance.

Odd question Feb 28, 2016

I think there are good and less good people in all walks of life. And in this case, over time, the good project managers end up finding and working with the good translaters.

But I do find this question somewhat distasteful, not least because about half the PMs I work with are female and they all have perfectly reasonable expectations.

Somewhat sexist question

If a PM offers me a deadline I cannot meet, I propose another deadline. If they need the project before then, they pass the project on to someone else. Simple as that.

I understand that this refers to splitting up a job among multiple translators. Sometimes it has to be done, but most of the clients I work with prefer not to do this. They recognize that quality suffers.

I don't work for clients who consistently promise impossible deadlines.

I don't understand the question Feb 28, 2016

A "baffled" option would indeed be appropriate.

There are no "rules" for project managers.

They come in all shapes, sizes, time zones, and most of all, varying levels of competence, goodwill, hurry, friendliness, savvy, experience, eagerness, and countless other factors.

To simplify matters, I divide them into two broad groups:

a) the good ones, who become my valued business partners and often friends; and

To simplify matters, I divide them into two broad groups:

a) the good ones, who become my valued business partners and often friends; and

b) the bad ones, which I try to shake off as soon as I get reassurance that they really are. Some of these take a bit of extra effort to be shaken off, but I don't give up (otherwise I'd have to give in to their demands).

Considering that I am a straight male human, and NOT a stork, obstetrician, midwife, postman, kidnapper, nor FedEx driver, I'll never be delivering anyone's baby.

quite opposite Feb 28, 2016

As far as I have seen, most of the PM's are women, nearly 80% percent. I think the reason for this is that women are more detail oriented, more patient and better in human relationships than men.

It's called humour and it made me smile.

Certainly most agencies seem to adopt that approach.

Disagree (quite strongly)! Feb 28, 2016

Project managers are no different from translators (some PMs even have a translation background, would they be previous translators or translation students who did a master in Translation Project Management). Anyway, the PMs I have been working with for ages are women with one exception and as he become a father of a baby girl quite recently he knows by experience what the normal length of a pregnancy is…

P.S. Is this meant to be amusing? I know that sense of humor varies widely from culture to culture and from person to person, but could you, please, enlighten me and explain the “reasoning” behind such sexist and discriminatory words?

Thanks Chris for pointing out this is just HUMOUR. Seems like it's not appropriate nowadays to even make the slightest joke involving women without being accused of sexism.

PS : I'm a woman so don't start telling me I'm against women...

I am pretty happy with the PMs of my regular clients (internationl agencies).

They are reasonable and respectful, otherwise I would not keep working with them.
