(6) Certified PRO success story: Laurence Fogarty.

2012 was a very important year for me from a professional point of view.

I joined ProZ.com last year, and that was a really significant career move in retrospect. I soon became aware of the environment that is ProZ.com, which is for me totally stimulating, where I can suggest a translation on KudoZ and see whether it is accepted or not, find out about clients on the Blue Board, search the KudoZ archive for those tricky words (an absolutely invaluable resource for all members), and much much else.

2012 became even better after Lucia kindly suggested to me to try for ProZ.com PRO certification. I was accepted in November 2012, and that was a fantastic way to end the year. Having the PRO badge means that as a translator I can assure any interested client of the quality of my work with some proof backing up that claim. Being a PRO means not just a capacity to translate, but in my view also provides an assurance that the holder of the certificate is a serious professional who respects deadlines, standards and all those things which clients demand. A PRO should behave just like the name says: a professional.

Best regards and happy translating to my fellow PRO members for 2013.

When we think of the service aspect of translation, we usually have in mind the pre-translation consultation. This is an important part of the translation process, but cannot take the place of regular follow-up...
