memoQ translator pro: created by translators for translators!

memoQ translator pro is a computer-assisted translation tool which runs on Microsoft Windows and on Mac using Parallels or VMWareFusion. It was envisioned more than 12 years ago by a group of enthusiastic linguists who aimed to develop innovative translation software which increases translator's productivity while being easy to learn and use.

Translation memory

memoQ features a state of the art translation memory which stores your translations and helps you reuse them. The translation memory boosts productivity and consistency throughout your project. With a translation memory in place you will never need to translate the same thing twice.

Term base

memoQ posses an advanced term base for handling terminology. With it, you can extract terms from files and translation memories, import your existing glossaries, combine bilingual glossaries into multilingual ones, or easily add new terminology as you translate.

The Muse

Muses offer automatic suggestions for target terms as you type. Muses are “trained” by analyzing content that is available from your translation memories and LiveDocs corpora. The more content available, the more precise and personalized the suggestions will be.

LiveDocs

LiveDocs is the best example of features in memoQ that speed up work. It is an alternative to translation memories which keeps your translation content structured and organized. It allows for the reuse of previous material based on the entire corpus rather than segments. This is the technology that makes memoQ, the CAT tool of choice for thousands of translators around the world.

5 out of 5 Very easy to learn, excellent support, wide range of tools and modules
Review by
jferedo I have been using this product since 2003 or 2004. I recovered its price by one large project. It is much much easier to learn than TRADOS. You can use it within half an hour and learn it on the go. Organizing documents, projects ect. is a breeze...TMs, etc. are automatically managed. The program can generate practically any kind of output. The QA (Quality Assurance) module is an excellent product, unfortunately not included in the basic package. If you translate lots of similar kind of documents and consequent quality is important, MemoQ is a must. Although the list price maybe high, MemoQ is almost always available at discount price (i.e. at conferences, promotions etc.). Very highly recommended. (I used TRADOS and DeJavu before).

How easy is it to learn?

I would not recommend this application
Review by
Abrigela I gave this application a low rating for how easy it is too learn. This is because it may be easy to get started, which it is, but then finding your way around all the menus, the presentation of information and the level of expertise you need around regular expressions to do things that Trados Studio can handle out of the box is too high. I tried very hard to make this application work for me after some colleagues upgraded from the old Trados, but I found Trados Studio much better in the long run.

How easy is it to learn?

Does everything Trados does but more intuitively, and brings many other features.

James Arthur Williamson . memoQ is easy to use without being as rigid as Across (for example) that simplifies the process at the expense of flexibility. memoQ's routine word-processing tools such as toggle capitals, bold, italics, etc. are one-click options on the tool bar (no need to open a drop-down) which makes for fast, fluent typing (there are keybord shortcuts too for those who prefer them). The drag-drop function from anywhere outside the active segment without altering the source is a big time-saver compared to typing or copying and-pasting names, addresses, etc., tag management is unobstrusive and insertion with a single click (again no dropdown required) helps keep the wordcount ticking along. There are many other features such as alignment, term base management, linked external glossaries and machine translation capacity I could mention but I think most hard-working translators will be interested in the bread-and-butter functions that make our day-to-day routines faster and easier.
