memoQ translator pro: created by translators for translators!

memoQ translator pro is a computer-assisted translation tool which runs on Microsoft Windows and on Mac using Parallels or VMWareFusion. It was envisioned more than 12 years ago by a group of enthusiastic linguists who aimed to develop innovative translation software which increases translator's productivity while being easy to learn and use.

Translation memory

memoQ features a state of the art translation memory which stores your translations and helps you reuse them. The translation memory boosts productivity and consistency throughout your project. With a translation memory in place you will never need to translate the same thing twice.

Term base

memoQ posses an advanced term base for handling terminology. With it, you can extract terms from files and translation memories, import your existing glossaries, combine bilingual glossaries into multilingual ones, or easily add new terminology as you translate.

The Muse

Muses offer automatic suggestions for target terms as you type. Muses are “trained” by analyzing content that is available from your translation memories and LiveDocs corpora. The more content available, the more precise and personalized the suggestions will be.

LiveDocs is the best example of features in memoQ that speed up work. It is an alternative to translation memories which keeps your translation content structured and organized. It allows for the reuse of previous material based on the entire corpus rather than segments. This is the technology that makes memoQ, the CAT tool of choice for thousands of translators around the world.

How easy is it to learn?

MemoQ has a big potential, but is not mature yet
Review by
Jerzy Czopik . Same as Studio, MemoQ has a lot of options, out of which many are very well hidden.
MemoQ is very fast - and I would even say it beats Studio in that respect. But in the end only in that respect.
This tool can be very well used as a preparation tool for Studio and then for some special operations Studio would be too slow for. But then MemoQ is not really well configurable to your needs.
Preparing projects in the freelance version of MemoQ is cumbersome and need to redo all the settings every time you start a new project.
You can autopropagate segments, but you cannot steer how the AP goes. Either it is there or not. No fine tuning for this.
You can filter your view (well, another great thing about MemoQ - the easily created views) by source and target term. But you can't filter for source with a certain term where it#s translation in target is missing - so the advantage of this dual screen filter is very limited.
You cannot split the GUI on another screen, so the GUI remains overloaded and is not really good legible.

As overall performance my second best choice after SDL Trados Studio.

Could not live without it!
Review by
Espen Johansen . Best CAT tool I ever used! Can not imagine my self using any other tool unless the client requires me to do so.

How easy is it to learn?

The best I have had so far except perhaps for another text-only tool MetaTexis
Review by
Wulf-Dieter Krüger . One test only and it was a buy. Absolute stress-free set-up, project set-up and translation. Need a new feature - you might have to look a bit, but then it is a cake walk. It does not crash. Have used it since Ver. 5 and am now at the latest 2014 R2 thanks to a reasonably priced maintenance contract.
Would not want to miss it.
PC-replacement - no hassle. Fresh install on the new PC and new registration. Should there be a hick-up - swift support reaction.
A tool that allows you to concentrate on the translation, in contrast with other CAT-tools - I have a total of five installed on my PC - memoQ is my working horse.

"Perpetual" license?
Review by
Mónica Belén Colacilli . I purchased a license in 2010, but most of my clients required other CATs, so I hardly used it the first year. When I tried to used it a couple of years later, I found my license didn't allow me to use almost any feature (I was not able to open more than 1 file, not to use a remote TM), and I also found that I should have paid an anual fee to keep it active.
