With the electronic parking brake applied, press the accelerator in the normal way: the Drive Away Assist function releases the electronic parking brake as the car starts to move.
The electronic parking brake can be applied manually when stopping at traffic lights, etc. without the need to hold the car with the footbrake, as the electronic parking brake will stop the car creeping while a gear is engaged.
The Drive Away Assist function operates in both forward and reverse gear modes.
Driving away on an uphill gradient
With the electronic parking brake applied, the Drive Away Assist function prevents the car rolling unintentionally.
The braking force of the electronic parking brake is only released when there is sufficient power at the wheels to make the car move in the required direction.
Driving away on a downhill gradient
When driving away on a gradient of more than 15%, the electronic parking brake system has a slow release capability. To take advantage of the slow release function, apply the throttle slowly, the electronic parking brake will then be released incrementally. This slow release capability is cancelled or overridden by fast throttle application.
Emergency braking application
The emergency braking function of the electronic park brake enables the car to be stopped if the main braking system should fail or if the brake pedal is obstructed.
To stop the car in an emergency, raise and hold the electronic parking brake switch. If the electronic parking brake switch is released or the accelerator is applied the brakes are released immediately.
The emergency braking function can be operated at speeds above approximately 7 km/h (4 mph). The brakes are applied hydraulically at all four wheels. The effect is similar to an emergency stop (full brake application).
In the event of a failure in the hydraulic braking system, where emergency braking cannot be applied to all four wheels, there is a reduced performance braking function which applies braking from the raised electronic parking brake switch at the rear wheels only. However, it must be recognised that car stability could be affected under poor road and weather conditions and extreme care must be taken.
To help prevent the emergency braking function being used accidentally, a warning buzzer sounds when the electronic parking brake switch is operated at speeds above 7 km/h (4 mph). When the electronic parking brake switch is released or the accelerator is applied at speeds above 7 km/h (4 mph), the brakes are released immediately.
