Source text - English • Interleukin-6, (IL-6) a soluble proteinaceous substance that stimulates energy mobilisation in muscles and fatty tissues (raising body temperature), may inhibit insulin uptake by blocking the insulin channels causing hyperglycaemia
• TNFa, (Tumor Necrosis Factor), is often associated with IL-6 and is a disease state that makes the body tissues more resistant to the action of insulin
• Elevated levels of the hormone Cortisol, which is released under conditions of stress in the body, can contribute to increased energy production and sympathetic nervous activity, leading to hyperglycaemia and reduced insulin sensitivity
• Accumulation of sleep debt due to sleep fragmentation
• Recurrent intermittent hypoxia leads to the impairment in glucose homeostasis (lack of maintenance of the blood glucose equilibrium) leading to insulin resistance
