Source text - English April, 1865, a country barely recovering from death on an unimaginable scale is now plunged into a new type of mourning. Just as the guns were falling silent on four years of civil war, the man who had held the country together through that war has been felled in his hour of triumph by an assassin's bullet. During his four years in the White House, the United States had been changed forever. Despite being torn by succession and civil war, it was a single country again and slavery, the ultimate cause of the war had been banished into memory. Now Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president had joined six hundred, twenty thousand of his countrymen as a victim of the war. As his funeral train approached Springfield, Illinois, it was completing a great American journey. One that had begun in complete obscurity.
Translation - Arabic نيسان/أبريل، ألف وثمانمئة وخمسة وستون. بلد ما كاد ينتهي من لملمة جراح الموت الذي اجتاحه على نحو عنيف، حتى غاص في نوع جديد من الحزن والفاجعة. بينما كان يُسدل الستار على أربعة أعوام من الحرب الأهلية، سقط الرجل الذي كان قد حافظ على وحدة البلد أثناء تلك الحرب، ضحية رصاصة غادرة، وهو في ذروة مجده وانتصاره. خلال ولايته التي استمرت أربعة أعوام في البيت الأبيض، شهدت الولايات المتحدة الأميركية تغيراً جذرياً. فعلى الرغم من مشاكل الانفصال عن الاتحاد والحرب الأهلية التي مزّقته، عاد بلداً موحداً، وحُظّر الرقّ الذي كان السبب الأساسي للحرب، ذاهباً إلى غير رجعة. انضمّ (أبراهام لنكولن) الرئيس السادس عشر لبلاده، إلى قائمة ضحايا الحرب الذين بلغ عددهم ستمئة وعشرين ألفاً. ومع اقتراب موكب جنازته من "سبرينغفيلد" في ولاية "إيلينوي"، كان يُكمل رحلة أميركية عظيمة. رحلة كانت قد بدأت في ظلام مُطبق.

Source text - French Pas un jour ou presque, sans que sous les coups des bulldozers de l'urbanisation galopante, un pan du passé ne ressurgisse. La ville actuelle est fondée sur une mosaïque de sites archéologiques dont les premiers datent de trente siècles. De fouilles d'urgence en fouilles de sauvetage, des archéologues palestiniens et français courent inlassablement d'un chantier à un autre, tentant de reconstituer le puzzle des temps anciens de la Palestine.
C'est ici, sur le flanc de la seule colline qui domine la bande de Gaza, dans le camp de réfugiés de Jabalyah d'où est partie la première Intifada, qu'une Eglise à trois nefs d'époque byzantine a été mise au jour en 1996.
Translation - Arabic لا يكاد ينقضي يوم إلا ويستيقظ فصل جديد من التاريخ تحت وقع الجرافات، مع توسّح رقعة المدنية. تقوم المدينة الحالية على مجموعة متنوعة من المواقع الأثرية التي يعود أقدمها لثلاثين قرناً من الزمن. ما بين عمليات التنقيب الطارئة وحفريات الإغاثة، يعمل علماء آثار فلسطينيون وفرنسيون دون كلل أو ملل، متنقلين من موقع لآخر، في محاولة منهم لجمع قطع أحجية العصور الغابرة في فلسطين.
هنا، على منحدرات الهضبة الوحيدة التي تشرف على قطاع "غزة"، في مخيم "جباليا" للاجئين من حيث انطلقت الانتفاضة الأولى، كُشف النقاب عن كنيسة ذات ثلاثة صحون تعود للعهد البيزنطي، عام ألف وتسعئمة وستة وتسعين.
