Bio
Having been interested in natural history as a teenager I studied biology at the University of Amsterdam and took a PhD degree in ecology at Utrecht University. As a hobby I studied piano at the "Muzieklyceum" Conservatorium in Amsterdam.
I had teaching and research positions at the Universities of Utrecht, Groningen and Nijmegen, all in The Netherlands, until I moved to Sweden to become full professor of plant ecology at Uppsala University. During the 1990s I was also G.P. Baerends guest professor in biology at Groningen University.
After retirement my wife and I returned to The Netherlands, where I continued as Editor to several international journals in ecology and conservation. Consequently I have a broad experience in scientific and technical editing and proof reading.
I have teaching experience in Dutch, Swedish and English and written and co-authored ca. 430 research papers and popular articles in English, Dutch, Swedish, German, French and Spanish. I corrected and partly rewrote and translated hundreds of papers in English, Dutch, Swedish and German. Over the years I developed a special interest in etymology.
It seemed a logical next step to continue with more formal translation work, particularly of (popular-) scientific publications.
