My main personal interest lies in linguistics, literature and the arts and humanities. However, my broad educational background makes me feel confident of my language and translation skills in many other areas. I completed high school in Singapore where I excelled in English and Literature. I graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University, New York, with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and obtained my master's degree in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University, California. Following that, I did a six-month stint as a writer/reporter with the Palo Alto Weekly, where I wrote in-depth articles on local issues. Last year, I volunteered my translation services to the Jakarta-based Griya Asri magazine when they were experimenting with publishing an English version of their architecture and interior magazine.

I won two writing awards at Cornell University for critical papers I wrote on the works of Henry James and Truman Capote. Earlier this year, I self-published an English collection of essays titled "Mother's Maiden Name?". The book is available for sale on http://www.lulu.com. An English-language essay I wrote was published by Reader's Digest last year.
As a beginning freelance translator, I charge $0.03/word for both English>Indonesian and Indonesian>English translations. My strong background in literature and social sciences ensures in-depth understanding of any material that does only rely on the literal meaning of words, but also on possible underlying social and cultural contexts.
