Tiahol by smolu života ani nohy z hnusného blata.
Translation - Slovak
Well enough that Maťo did not know anything about these terrible things. Things which we know only from the imagination cannot undermine our powers in any way. If he himself had find the two stinking frazzled corpses in the ruins, all reminiscent of the burnt bodies of his father and uncle, he would have realized the peltiness of human drudgery and given up the futile struggle on this rock for ever. If he were little Ondro, he would have bowed his head and thought and desire would never spark up in him. He would drag out the bad luck of life a footfrom disgusting mud. And if he were a mother, fighting her way out of strange, heavy blankets towards malendent life, he could only have to offer up prayers which are due to someone unknown and ask for something untold and uncertain, something that noone understands.
If Maťo had been at home, he would have experieced a second fall, which would have throughly blooded him down.
But at that time, when Maťo´s father´s house was on fire, he lay at the edge of two worlds alone. His longing for death fought with the desire for life, because body itself wanted it. And at that moment he realized taht life was more than the breathing of one man, he understood that no one would take any notice of his death and life would go on, vejacing at lost of a weak fighter. And all that was necessary for this fight was strong hands and hard heads, let the riff-raff rabble drown in its own blood on the path victory

Na člověka zdravého pusobil dojmem, jaký máme, když mluvíme s lidmi, jichž myšlenkový řetěz má vadné, přetrhané články a jichž mozek jakoby koktal vinou nemocné míchy.
I smrt Michovského.

Translation - Slovak
Mr. Michovský had a pretty clear idea of how things stood, but he seemed to be afraid of the question which would do nothing for his health. He was now a sick man, he was becoming forgetfull and even more religious. A healthy man would have the kind of impression that we get when talking to people the chain of whose thoughts has some defective, broken links and whose brain seems to stutter because of a bone-narrow infection.
Instead of keeping an eye on his wife, as he used to, now he was tended to avoid her asi f he hated and feared her. He had been doing so especially since Hedvika remarked while he was at prayer: „ What you have lost because of your womenising not even the good Lord above can put right.“
Mrs Michovská was almost free now, but she longer needed to be. On the contrary, everything was taking shape as if to be a mockery of all the poor lady´s previous longings, who could be as happy now as she had once wished. It had all arrived too late. Even Michovsky´s death. Ultimately it did not mater whether her husband was alive or not. He could not be an obstacle to her anymore. His fate was perhaps luckier than that of widow. He died in a very strange way and in the end, for a man who had begun to suffer with paralysis, it was a mercy.

The Devil´s doctor: Paracelsus and the world of renaissance magic and science

....His insistence on the importance of hand-dirtying experience was bound to cause eyebrowns to be raised in the disinfected halls of academia. Engulfed by monomanical systems of learning, his contradictions seem absolutely necessary: a pacifist drawn to war, who learned about surgical techniques in field hospitals / gruesomely, and very effectively, imagined herein /, an astrologer who believed that man´s destiny could only be found in the body´s fluids and meat. „ Let no man belong to another who can belong to himself“, he said, conjuring babies from a mixture of horeshit and sperm and thumbing his nose at the „piss-gazers“.
...Compelling and intriguing stuff. And there´s more: Paracelsus was a proselytizer for laudanum, which he kept in the pommel of the broadsword he was often depicted as brandishing / and which, mysteriously, vanished from among his relics /. But, Ball asks, what exactly was this „laudanum“? Not simply a tincture of opium in alcohol suspension, this particular substance was said to reanimate the dead, and Paracelsus himself never specifically referred to i tas having anything to do with poppies.
... Ball´s entrhusiasm can, at times, entice him into unconvincing arguments and a rhetorical tenuity: as when he asks „ isn´t there something Faustian about the entire enterprise of printing?“ to which the quick answer is „ well, erm, no“. But this is counterbalanced by the odd poetical flourish: theological thunderbolts coarsely wrought and thrown with venom, for example.

Diablov doktor: Paracelsus a svet renesančnej mágie a vedy

...Strhujúce a čítanie plné napätia.
