Acts 20:28
Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God which He obtained with the blood of His own Son.
I have been moved deeply recently in reading about the life of Nicolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf. Many of you know about him. Some don't .He was a German, born in 1700, who founded a community of earnest Christians called Herrnhut ("The Lord's Watch") .The community became part of the Moravian church and was best known for its unparalleled missionary zeal.
In 1727 the community started a 'round the clock "prayer watch" that lasted unbroken for 100 years. There were about 300 persons in the community at the beginning, and various ones covenanted to pray for one of the 24 hours in the day. In 1792, 65 years later, with the lamp of prayer still burning, the little community had sent out 300 missionaries to the unreached peoples of the West Indies, Greenland, Lapland, Turkey, and North America. They were utterly, and radically dedicated to making Jesus known.
I mention this not only because I dream of a church saturated with prayer and sold out utterly to Christ and ready to leave everything for His call. I mention it this morning because behind this community at Herrnhut there was an experience of deep humbling and cleansing and power based on the blood of Jesus.
After Zinzendorf had finished the University he took a trip throughout Europe looking at some of the cultural highspots. And something very unexpected happened. In the art museum at Dusseldorf he saw a painting by Domenico Feti entitled Ecce Homo ("Behold the Man") .It was a portrait of Christ with the crown of thorns pressed down on His head and blood running down His face.
Beneath the portrait were the words, "I have done this for you; what have you done for me?" All of his life Zinzendorf looked back to that encounter as utterly life-changing. As he stood there, as it were, watching his Savior suffer and bleed, he said to himself, "I have loved Him for a long time, but I have never actually done anything for Him. From now on I will do whatever He leads me to do."
For the rest of his life the blood of Jesus had a central place in the doctrine and devotion of Zinzendorf and his community at Herrnhut. And the story goes that when the first two young missionaries boarded the ship in Copenhagen to sail for the West Indies, perhaps never to return (20 out of the first 29 missionaries to St. Thomas and St. Croix died in those first years), they lifted their hands as if in sacred pledge and called out to their friends on shore, "May the Lamb that was slain receive the reward of His suffering!"
My message is going to be short today because I want to save a good portion of time to worship the Lord and to pray together before we take the Lord's Supper. And the question I want you to ask yourself and ask the Lord as you prepare for the Lord's Table is this: "Has the Lord obtained the reward of his sufferings in your life?" When you think about the blood of Jesus running down His face from the thorns, and from His hands and feet and pouring His side, are you content with what He has of you? Has the purchase that He made been obtained freely from your hand. Or are you withholding any of the reward of His suffering?
To help us answer that very personal question let me take a few minutes and meditate with you on the blood of Christ. What did God purchase at the price of His own blood?
Acts 20:28 says that He purchased the church. "Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God which He obtained with the blood of His own Son."
So when Zinzendorf stood before the painting in Dusseldorf as a believing, faithful member of the church of Jesus Christ, he could say on the authority of this text: "These wounds were meant to purchase me. These drops of blood were shed to obtain me." He could never get over it. He was not his own; he was bought with a price. Do you get up in the morning and say, "I am not my own today. I belong to another. I have been bought with a price. And I will live every moment of this day so that the Great Purchaser of my soul will receive the full reward of His suffering."
And what would that mean in daily practice? Let me mention three things.
1. The reward of Christ's sufferings and the purchase of his blood is the cleansing and beautifying of his people, his bride.
Ephesians 5:25-27, "Husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her, that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present the church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish."
What then did He bleed to purchase? What was the reward of His suffering? Verseÿ26: to sanctify His church. The holiness of His people will be His reward. Verse 27: to present her to Himself in splendor without spot or wrinkle. So His reward will be the beauty of His bride — she will be splendid and glorious at the marriage feast of the Lamb.
So I ask you again before we take this sacred cup, are you striving with all your might to render to Jesus the reward of His suffering — to offer up to Him what He has purchased? Or to put it differently, Is your heart in tune with His heart? His heart that considered your holiness something worth dying for? Are you putting the same price on your holiness that He did? Or do you neglect what He died to purchase?
First then, the reward of Christ's sufferings is the holiness of His people. He suffered and bled and died to obtain a people and to make that people holy — to make His bride clean and beautiful. Your holiness — your spiritual beauty — is the reward of His sufferings and the purchase of His blood. And He will have it from all those who are truly His.
2. secondly the reward of Christ's sufferings is the zeal of his people for good deeds.
Titus 2:14 says, "He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all iniquity and to purify for Himself a people of His own who are zealous for good deeds."
He gave Himself to make a people zealous for good deeds. He shed His blood to purchase your zeal for practical righteousness and mercy, for benevolence and kindness, for courage and compassion. Notice this carefully: He did not die merely to get you to stop doing some bad things. Nor did He die merely to get you to do some good things. He died to make you zealous for good deeds. He suffered and bled and died to give you a zeal for doing good.
Do you have a zeal for doing good to people? Eternal good through their salvation? And temporal good as a means to that end? Or are you denying Christ the reward of His sufferings? What does it mean that Christ gave Himself in wracking pain to make you zealous for good deeds, if you are taking no steps to become zealous for good deeds?
The zeal of those early Moravian missionaries was unquenchable. And I think the reason is that they never forgot the blood of Jesus. They never stopped thinking: my life, my holiness, my zeal for the good of souls was purchased at the price of His blood. How can I not live for His honor with every breath I take! How can I not freely offer up to Him what He has purchased with His blood?
Your zeal for the good of people is the reward of His suffering. Are you with Him or against Him in His suffering?
3. Finally, the reward of Christ's sufferings is a ransomed church from every tribe and language and people and nation.
In Revelation 5:9 the Lamb of God is worshipped with these words, "Worthy art Thou to take the scroll and to open its seals, for Thou wast slain and by Thy blood didst ransom persons for God from every tribe and tongue and people and nation."
By His blood He has ransomed persons from every people group in the world — every tribe, every language group, every culture, every ethnic cluster. The reward of His suffering is the ingathering of the elect from all the peoples of the world. In other words, the blood of Jesus was shed not just to purchase your holiness and your zeal for good deeds; but the holiness and the good deeds of all the worldwide church of God including those sheep that are not yet in the fold.
So I ask again: does your heart beat with His heart this morning? Are you pursuing in your life the things He bled to obtain? When we come to the Lord's table in a few moments and with the cup and the bread proclaim His death, will you be able to say to Him with a clear conscience, "There is nothing I want more in my life than what you bled to obtain; there is no reward in my life that I want more than the reward of your suffering"?
If you look at your life and come up wanting (as we all will) do not forget this: the reward of His suffering is also the forgiveness of sins (Ephesians 1:7) and justification by faith (Romans 5:9), and reconciliation with God (Romans 5:10), and cleansing of conscience (Hebrews 9:14) and final victory over Satan (Revelationÿ12:11).
In the next few minutes let's do some real serious business with God and with His Son. There is confession enough for all of us. And some serious praying is needed about defects in our lives that reveal a terrible indifference to the price Jesus paid for our holiness and our zeal for good deeds and our passion for world evangelization.
Don't let go of God in this hour until you can say from the bottom of your heart, "Lord, Jesus, there is nothing I want more in my life than what You bled to obtain."

Hechos 20:28 dice que compró la iglesia. “Tened cuidado de vosotros y de toda la grey, en medio de la cual el Espíritu Santo os ha hecho obispos para pastorear la iglesia de Dios, la cual El compró con su propia sangre.”

El celo de esos primeros misioneros moravos era insaciable. Y creo que la razón es porque nunca olvidaron la sangre de Jesús. Nunca dejaron de pensar: mi vida, mi santidad, mi celo por el bien de las almas fue comprado al precio de su sangre. ¡Cómo no puedo vivir para su honor cada vez que respiro! ¿Cómo no puedo ofrecerle libremente lo que Él ha comprado con su sangre?

Entonces le pregunto de nuevo: ¿tu corazón late con el suyo en esta mañana? ¿Estás buscando en tu vida las cosas que Él sangró para obtener? En 2007 Leslie Guzmán constituye UPA! cura Duchenne con el propósito de integrar bajo un solo emblema y nombre los esfuerzos dispersos deorganizaciones de Ibero-América líderes, enfocadas en el tratamiento, terapias y la cura de Duchenne y otras enfermedades neuro-musculares.
El principal objetivo es dar a los niños y jóvenes con Duchenne/Becker ahora, la oportunidad de vivir una vida normal así como a otras personas afectadas con enfermedades neuromusculares.
Misión
Contribuir a salvar a los niños y jóvenes de esta generación que padecen enfermedades neuromusculares, mejorar la calidad del tratamiento de los pacientes de hoy; a través de promover que las asociaciones de Iberoamérica, con fines comunes, participen en esfuerzos globales en armonía, buscar la unión y colaboraciones entre las asociaciones, integrar a la región, reunir conocimiento y recursos en un intento por aumentar el conocimiento y la conciencia de la sociedad y los gobiernos, acerca de los desórdenes neuromusculares que nos afectan; integrar a las personas afectadas a la sociedad; mejorar el acceso de información y aumentar la recaudación de fondos en busca del desarrollo acelerado de tratamientos y cura, enfocándose principalmente en la Distrofia Muscular de Duchenne - DMD.

Translation - English History of UPA!
Establishment
In 2007, Leslie Guzman established UPA! Cure Duchenne with the goal of integrating the disperse efforts of leading Ibero-American organizations focused on treatment, therapies, and a cure for Duchenne and other neuromuscular disorders under one emblem and name.
The principal objective is to give children and youth who currently have Duchenne/Becker, along with other people affected by neuromuscular disorders, the opportunity to live a normal life.
Mission
To contribute to saving the children and youth of this generation who suffer from neuromuscular diseases, to improve the quality of treatment of current patients by encouraging Ibero-American associations with common goals to participate harmoniously in global efforts, to seek unity and collaboration between associations, to integrate into the region, to gather knowledge and resources in an attempt to heighten the understanding and conscience of society and government regarding neuromuscular disorders that affect us; to integrate affected people into society; to improve the access to information and increase fund raising in search of accelerated development of treatments and a cure, focusing primarily on Duchenne muscular dystrophy – DMD.
To function as an Information Center of Excellence in Spanish in which the Spanish speaking population can find the answers to their questions about Duchenne, its progression, treatment, care, therapy, genetic counseling, and studies, among other relevant themes.

That the efforts and actions of Ibero-American associations, focused on Duchenne muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular disorders, be integrated into programs of collaboration that work in a harmonized manner with a rational and optimal application of resources, and whose results are reflected in tangible benefits for those affected by these disorders.

d) Integrate children and youth with neuromuscular disorders, particularly Duchenne/Becker, into social, school, and work environments with a better quality of life.

Introduction
Within neuromuscular conditions there can be a range of issues with feeding and nutrition. This may vary with different diagnoses.
Normal, healthy growth is measured according to weight and height. Charts are available which outline the ranges of weight, which are considered to be healthy. For people with neuromuscular disorders this range is extended slightly to account for different amounts of muscle.
Growth patterns that may require attention and monitoring are either being overweight for height (an indication of excess nutrition), or underweight for height (insufficient nutrition).
What causes someone to be overweight?
This is caused when energy used by the body is less than energy eaten. In neuromuscular conditions it could be due to a reduced ability to walk around (so less energy is burned off) or increases in appetite (which may be a side-effect of some medication eg steroids). Eating an "average" portion of food in some cases may be larger than the energy required and lead to too much weight gain.
How can you lose extra weight?
Up until the end of the adolescent growth spurt all children grow in height and require adequate nutrition to grow. It is important that the diet is balanced and takes into account the amount of energy a child is using. Generally, prevention is better than cure. It is easier to monitor and keep weight stable than lose it.
Different strategies can be used to lose weight. One is increasing energy expenditure by exercising. This can be difficult for individuals with limited mobility.
Banned foods can become more desirable and it may be helpful to still have some treats. Advice from a specialist dietitian can be helpful in setting goals and making more specific suggestions.
What is underweight?
This is not putting on enough weight. Not putting on weight is due to not having enough energy (calories) in the diet. By frequently not being well, weight may not be maintained over a long period of time. If not enough calories are eaten, blood sugar levels may also drop. This can cause weakness, dizziness, mood swings, hot/cold flushes and shakiness.
There are a number of reasons why children with muscle disease may be underweight. It is a common misconception that all children with a muscle condition will be thin because of their reduced muscle bulk or as a result of loss of muscle or weakness. There are a wide variety of shapes and sizes in individuals with muscle conditions. While on one hand it is easier for the thin child to perform some movements and reduced weight makes transferring for parents/carers easier, it is also important to realise that maintaining good nutrition is fundamental to maintaining good health.
It is important to realise that, whatever the cause, there are often strategies that can be used to help lessen the problems associated with eating and it is important to discuss these with a specialist.

Dentro de las condiciones neuromusculares puede haber un rango amplio de temas de alimentación y nutrición que varían según el diagnóstico.
Se mide el crecimiento sano y normal según el peso y la estatura. Hay tablas disponibles que resumen los rangos de peso que se consideran saludables. Para personas con condiciones neuromusculares este rango es extendido ligeramente para tomar en cuenta las cantidades diferentes de músculo.
Los patrones de crecimientos que pueden requerir la atención y el monitoreo son; el sobrepeso en relación con la estatura (una indicación de nutrición excesiva), o una falta de peso (desnutrición) en relación con la estatura.
¿Cuáles son las causas del sobrepeso?
Esta condición es ocasionada cuando la energía gastada por el cuerpo es menos que la energía consumida en alimentos. En condiciones neuromusculares puede deberse a una habilidad reducida de caminar (de modo que se quema menos energía) o un aumento en apetito (que puede ser un efecto secundario de algunos medicamentos, p.ej. esteroides). Se observa una gran variedad de tipos y tamaños de cuerpos en los individuos con condiciones musculares. Mientras por un lado es más fácil para un niño delgado efectuar algunos movimientos y el peso reducido hace más fácil para los padres o cuidadores la labor de cargar el niño, es importante darse cuenta que mantener una buena nutrición es fundamental para mantener la buena salud.
Es importante notar que, sin importar la causa, frecuentemente hay estrategias que se puede implementar para reducir los problemas asociados con la alimentación y es importante hablar de dichos problemas con un especialista.
Spanish to English: El Voluntariado en Ecuador

4.1 METODOLOGÍA UTILIZADA PARA LA INVESTIGACIÓN
La investigación se basa principalmente en la aplicación de encuestas a las organizaciones de voluntariado a nivel nacional. Es importante aclarar que, a partir de esta metodología de investigación, varias organizaciones de voluntariado que no están afiliadas a alguna red de voluntariado han quedado fuera, de igual manera las instacias que promueven o llevan voluntariado, pero que no son organizaciones (agrupaciones barriales, iglesias, etc.).
Dado que no existe una instancia que registre todas las organizaciones de voluntariado o que incluyan voluntariado en su labor, se han elegido varias fuentes, algunas específicas y otras más generales, con el objetivo de llegar con la encuesta al mayor número de organizaciones
posibles. Las fuentes usadas y su respuesta ante las encuestas son:

Es decir, se distribuyeron 1.016 encuestas, de las cuales se tiene certeza que 371 llegaron a organizaciones de voluntariado, ya que están registradas de esa forma a redes locales de voluntariado; el resto fueron aplicadas a ONG a nivel nacional, pero no se conoce qué porcentaje de ellas incluyen el área de voluntariado en su labor.
De las 371 encuestas que se esperaba tener, éste es el universo conocido de organizaciones de voluntariado, se obtuvieron 93 respuestas completas, lo que significa un 25.06% de respuesta, que es válido como una muestra representativa de este sector del universo
de organizaciones de voluntariado que no es el universo total.
El proceso de levantamiento de información develó datos muy interesantes como reconocer
niveles de capacidad de gestión de varias organizaciones, a las que les resultó imposible completar los formularios electrónicamente y que sus comunicaciones no incluían el correo electrónico.
Otro factor revelador fue el alto resquemor de las organizaciones de voluntariado al sentirse investigadas. Preguntas con tono de miedo como: ¿esto no le va a llegar al Servicio de Rentas Internas? o ¿no van a exigir inscribirme a otro ministerio? Son preguntas que nos develan el nivel y el deseo de coordinación que tienen varias organizaciones con el Estado.
Tanto fue el escepticismo generado por esta encuesta que en varias provincias fue necesario
armar talleres con grupos focales, con el objetivo de calmar sus preocupaciones y poder recabar la información que había sido imposible levantarla por medios digitales. Se realizaron tres talleres de este tipo en: Guayaquil, Ambato y Riobamba.
Translation - English 4. PRESENTATION OF THE RESEARCH DATA
4.1 METHODOLOGY USED IN THE STUDY
The research is based primarily on the administration of surveys to volunteer organizations on a national level. It’s important to clarify that, using this methodology of research, various volunteer organizations that are not affiliated with a volunteering network have been left out, likewise with associations who promote or run volunteering programs, but who aren’t considered organizations (neighborhood groups, churches, etc.)
Given that there is no association that records all the volunteer organizations or organizations that include volunteers in their activities, various sources have been chosen, some specific, and others more general, with the goal of administering the survey to the greatest number of organizations possible. The sources used and their response to the survey is as follows:

That is to say, 1016 surveys were distributed, of which we are certain that 371 arrived to volunteer organizations, since they are registered as such with local volunteer networks; the rest were administered in NGOs at a national level, but it’s not known what percentage of them include volunteerism in their activities.
Of the 371 surveys we hoped to have, this is the known realm of volunteer organizations, 93 completed surveys were obtained, this is equivalent to a 25.06% answer rate, which is valid as a representative sample of this sector of the realm of volunteer organizations, which is not the total realm.
The process of information gathering revealed very interesting data like the recognition of levels of management ability of various organizations, for whom it turned out to be impossible to complete the form electronically as their methods of communication didn’t include email.

We received question with a tone of fear, such as; is this going to end up with the Internal Revenue Service? Or, are we going to be forced to register with another ministry? These are questions that expose the degree of, and desire for, coordination that various organizations have with the State.
The skepticism generated by this survey was so high that in various provinces it was necessary to put together workshops with focus groups, with the objective being to calm their fears and obtain the information that had been impossible to gather by electronic means. Three workshops of this type were carried out in: Guayaquil, Ambato, and Riobamba.
English to Spanish: Puente - Amaranth Day
Source text - English Great Success on Amaranth Day Events!
In September and October, Puente held four amaranth day events to celebrate the success of cultivating amaranth among farmers and their families in the regions where Puente’s Training Farmers project work in. The events were held separately in Nochitxtlán, Santa María Tlahuitoltepec, San Antonio el Alto y San Miguel Peras. Nearly 300 local farmers and their families from various communities in each region participated in the events. Farmers gathered in a panel to share their experiences in cultivating amaranth, participants prepared various amaranth dishes to sample, demonstrations on harvesting amaranth and tours to amaranth plots were also organized to exhibit farmer’s success with their amaranth farms. Amaranth day events generated much enthusiasm among local communities and provided an exciting platform for communities to organize local amaranth farmer networks and to promote amaranth in each region. Puente looks forward to organizing another series of amaranth day events in the coming year.
Translation - Spanish ¡Los Eventos del Día del Amaranto - Un Gran Éxito!
En septiembre y octubre, Puente llevó a cabo cuatro eventos del día del Amaranto para celebrar el éxito de la cultivación del amaranto entre los productores y sus familias en las regiones donde el proyecto de Puente “Capacitación a Productores” se está realizando. Los eventos se llevaron a cabo por separado en Nochitxtlán, Santa María Tlahuitoltepec, San Antonio el Alto y San Miguel Peras. Casi 300 productores locales y sus familias de varias comunidades en cada región participaron en los eventos. Los productores formaron una mesa redonda donde compartieron sus experiencias con la cultivación del amaranto, los participantes prepararon varios platos de amaranto para probar, hubo demostraciones sobre la cosecha del amaranto y también se organizaron visitas a las parcelas de amaranto para exhibir el éxito de los productores con sus cultivos. Los eventos del Día del Amaranto generaron mucho entusiasmo entre las comunidades locales y proporcionaron una plataforma donde las comunidades pudieron organizar sus propias redes de productores de amaranto y donde fue posible promover el amaranto en cada región. Puente anticipa organizar otra serie de eventos del Día del Amaranto en el año que viene.
