Source text - Dutch Shell’s worsteling met maatschappelijk verantwoord ondernemen
Het hoofdkantoor van Shell huist in een imposant kantorencomplex op een steenworp afstand van het Haagse Binnenhof waar parlement en regering zetelen. De economische grootmacht en de politieke bestuurders kruisen nu eenmaal veelvuldig elkaars wegen. De nabijheid is meer dan symbolisch. Achter de brede met fauteuils uitgeruste lobby wacht de bezoeker een veiligheidsluis waarna het zenuwcentrum van de oliemultinational wordt betreden. In een van de lange gangen zetelt de afdeling Public Affairs waar Bert Fokkema als Issues Manager mede vorm geeft aan de Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) binnen het bedrijf. Shell was in 1995 de eerste Europese multinational die door een opeenvolgende reeks van dramatische gebeurtenissen haar maatschappelijke verantwoordelijkheid onder ogen zag. En daarmee aan de wieg stond van een nieuw concept voor CSR. Fokkema blikt terug en beschrijft de huidige praktijk binnen Shell. ,,De werkelijkheid is weerbarstig.’’

Shell’s Headquarters is located in an impressive office building a stone’s throw away from the Haagse Binnenhof in The Hague, the residence of the parliament and the government. It comes as no surprise that the paths of the economic superpower and political leaders cross often. The proximity is more than just symbolic. Behind the spacious lobby furnished with arm-chairs, visitors pass through a safety corridor before entering the nerve centre of the multinational oil company. The Public Affairs division, where Issues Manager Bert Fokkema helped shape Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), resides in one of the long corridors within the building. In 1995, Shell was the first European multinational company to face its responsibility to society through a series of dramatic events. With this, it established a new concept for the CSR. Fokkema looks back and describes the current practice within Shell. “The truth is unruly.”

De DCE European Championships worden volgend jaar opnieuw in Kerkrade gehouden. Voor het vierde jaar op rij is het Parkstad Limburg Stadion
de thuisbasis.
Drum Corps Europe is erg tevreden over de locatie, die voor veel korpsen goed bereikbaar is. Daarnaast voldoet het stadion aan alle faciliteiten en verloopt de samenwerking met de voetbalclub Roda JC en de gemeente Kerkrade erg plezierig. Bovendien werkt DCE nadrukkelijk aan de bekendheid van het evenement in de regio in de
hoop ook steeds meer nieuw publiek te trekken. Zo werden dit jaar lokale verkooppunten geïntroduceerd en samenwerkingsverbanden met
winkeliers opgezet.
"We krijgen veel positieve reacties van korpsen, drum corps fans en lokaal publiek", aldus voorzitter Marcel Matthijsse. "Vandaar dat we
niet lang hebben getwijfeld en besloten hebben volgend jaar weer in het inmiddels al vertrouwde stadion terug te komen."
Zet zaterdag 24 september maar vast in uw agenda! Korpsen kunnen zich nog tot 30 november inschrijven voor het Europees Kampioenschap. De kaartverkoop start op 1 mei 2011.
Translation - English DCE Championships come back to Kerkrade
Next year’s DCE European Championships will once again be held in Kerkrade. The Parkstad Limburg Stadion will host the Championships for the fourth consecutive year.
Drum Corps Europe is very pleased with the location, which is accessible for many corps. The stadium also meets all the requirements with regards to facilities and there is strong cooperation with both the football club Roda JC and the wider Kerkrade community. In addition, DCE is working on increasing local awareness of the event in the hope of attracting an increasing number of new audience members. For example, this year saw the introduction of local sales points and partnerships with local retailers were set up.
“We get a lot of positive feedback from corps, drum corps fans and local audience members,” states Chairman Marcel Matthijsse. “That’s why we did not hesitate in deciding that the Championships will be coming back to the now very familiar stadium next year.”
Enter Saturday 24 September in your diary! Corps can register for the European Championships until the 30th of November. Ticket sales will start on the 1st of May 2011.
