I studied history at Edinburgh University. I took a wide range of courses including English and European history, both medieval and modern, Scandinavian history and Chinese history. I worked as a tour director with groups of American and Canadian tourists in the UK before coming to live in Spain where I took up English teaching. After some years I studied for the higher level diploma st the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas in Palma, Mallorca. That was followed by a course in translation at International House in Barcelona. Now I live in Ibiza. I've translated a wide variety of things and even worked as a simultaneous interpreter at a conference about Second Life/virtual worlds but what I find most satisfying is translating texts relating to history and archaeology. I've recently completed a translation of a book about the Spanish civil war written by someone who was called up to fight on the Republican side. Most likely I'll make it available as a PDF. I've just launched my website and hope to start a blog for a magazine here in Ibiza in the near future. My other interests include; playing tennis and swimming. I enjoy travelling and learning other languages. |
