Bio
I have been translating from Italian to English for 6 years. For the last 10 years I have been teaching English as a foreign language, four years of which were spent running my own language school. I sold my business last year as we moved away from the area and I am now a full-time freelance translator.
Being an English teacher not only gave me the opportunity to learn more about the grammar of my own language but also put me in a variety of situations where it was necessary for me to learn specific terms in both languages. Over the last 9 years of working in Italy I have taught doctors, engineers, lawyers and businessmen as well as teaching for the Guardia di Finanza, airport traffic control staff and state schools. Although I would not consider myself an expert in any of these areas, I would never take on or apply for a translation job that I didn't think I was capable of doing well. I always check my work thoroughly at the end and take the time to do extra research if I should find a word or term that I'm not familiar with. The finished result is a text that remains true to the original but that is clear, correct English and that doesn't sound like a translation. Some of the work I have translated has been accepted for publication.
Before becoming a teacher of English I studied Media Production and have work experience in television and radio. My interests are art and literature and this has been the case since I was at school.
I would particularly be interested in translating anything about preeclampsia, premature babies and NICU related topics, having recently become somewhat of an 'expert' in these areas.
