Adam Opel learned the tricks of the trade in Belgium. He built his first Opel in 1898. Since then, ‘der Blitz’ has formed an integral part of the street scene. Towards the end of the roaring twenties, the corporate giant American General Motors acquired the brand. Opel then took the world by storm with resounding names such as the Regent, Kadett, Record, Captain, Astra … From its headquarters in Rüsselsheim and Bochum, the German car producer developed itself into one of the foremost post-war volume producers of Europe. In 1953, an Opel plant became operational in Antwerp. And it is no coincidence that 50 years later Beerens settled in Opel's former production facility. Nowadays Opel continues to surprise the world with a combination of technologically advanced cars and budget-friendly decency. Opel has also become a household name in the fleet segment. When it comes to passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, Opel’s portfolio holds all the trumps.

In Prinses Amaliawindpark is gekozen voor een monopalenfundering. De monopaal is een stalen buis van 320 ton, heeft een diameter van circa 4 meter en is ongeveer 50 meter lang. Als de weersomstandigheden gunstig zijn worden er drie monopalen en drie transitiestukken op de Jumping Jack geladen en naar zee gesleept. De Jumping Jack is een soort hefeiland dat zichzelf met behulp van vier poten fixeert op de zeebodem en zich vervolgens volledig uit het water kan tillen. Daardoor ontstaat een stabiel werkeiland van 100 bij 30 meter van waaruit de installatiewerkzaamheden plaats kunnen vinden.
De Jumping Jack, met een kraancapaciteit van 1200 ton, heit op zee de funderingen in de zeebodem. Bij aanvang van dit proces wordt de monopaal horizontaal uitgeladen door de kraan en verticaal op de zeebodem geplaatst. Een speciale grijper zorgt er voor dat de monopaal waterpas gepositioneerd wordt voordat het heiwerk kan beginnen. De monopaal wordt in ongeveer twee uur circa dertig meter de grond in geheid.
Vervolgens wordt om de monopaal een zogenaamde J-buis geschoven. De J-buis geleidt de kabels vanuit de windturbine naar de bodem. Het laatste onderdeel van de fundering is het transitiestuk. Dit is de verbinding tussen de monopaal en de toren. Het transitiestuk wordt op de monopaal vastgezet met een cementachtige substantie, die 'grout' genoemd wordt.

The Jumping Jack has a lifting capacity of 1,200 tons and is used to drive the foundations into the sea-floor. A special gripper ensures that the monopile is levelly positioned before it can be driven into the ground. Each monopile is driven 30 metres into the ground in approximately 2 hours.
A “J-tube” is then fitted around the monopile, leading the cables from the wind turbine to the sea-floor. The last section of the foundation is the transition piece. This forms the connection between the monopile and the tower. The transition piece is fixed to the monopile using a cement-like substance called ‘grout’.

Today, a system downtime of that magnitude could potentially lead to a direct loss of hundreds of thousands of euros, diminish corporate reputation and affect relationships with customer and partner organisations.
One thing you can be sure of with computers is that, eventually, they will break down. There are multiple threats to systems – natural disasters can strike, but actually a failure is far more likely to be caused by human error, a hard drive crash or virus attack. The potential for data loss and system downtime is often underestimated.
Translation - English Vroeger werden storingen van ICT-systemen die een bedrijf gedurende een of meer dagen platlegden beschouwd als een vervelend fenomeen. Vandaag de dag resulteert downtime van een dergelijke omgang echter al snel in het verlies van honderdduizenden euro’s, forse schade aan de bedrijfsreputatie en een verslechtering van de relaties met klanten en partners.
