Italian to English: Conferenza su politica agricola UE
Source text - Italian Una particolare attenzione verrà dedicata alla possibilità di realizzare ipotesi di integrazione tra le agricolture e tra i territori dei diversi paesi: è possibile fin d’ora ipotizzare la realizzazione di alleanze costituite tra progetti congiunti nel campo dell’innovazione, della promozione sui mercati comunitari ed extracomunitari di prodotti complementari, di joint-ventures tra piccoli gruppi di imprese delle varie regioni.
Si cercherà di valutare il livello di integrazione degli “acceding countries” e il percorso compiuto nel processo di adesione per i “candidate countries” ai fini dell’individuazione di una strategia di intervento comune. Gli studi e le analisi condotte avranno come prioritario punto di riferimento l’impresa agricola e il relativo contesto territoriale, nella convinzione che un concreto sviluppo rurale non possa prescindere dall’attivazione delle risorse strettamente interconnesse agli ambiti agricoli. E’ necessario riconoscere e individuare le potenzialità del territorio in cui si opera per saper costruire un valido percorso di interventi integrati volti al rafforzamento del ruolo dell’impresa agricola nell’ambito degli indirizzi di politica agricola dell’UE. I modelli di rete proposti serviranno non solo a promuovere la conoscenza e l’integrazione tra prodotti e mercati agricoli dei vari paesi, ma anche, se non soprattutto, a stimolare la valorizzazione tra tutte le risorse che in ambito rurale possono concorrere ad un miglioramento della competitività dell’impresa agricola.
Translation - English Particular attention will be paid to ways to implement plans to integrate the agricultural systems and land of the different countries: new alliances are already foreseeable, forming under joint projects in the fields of innovation, marketing complementary products in EU and non EU countries, and joint ventures between small groups of companies throughout the different regions.
There will be an effort to assess the acceding countries’ level of integration, and the progress already made by candidate countries towards joining, in order to develop a common strategic plan of action. Research and analysis will focus primarily on agricultural enterprises and the relative context of land, in the belief that real rural development cannot precede the tapping into those resources which are closely related to the field of agriculture. It is important to recognise and pinpoint the potential within the relevant field of interest, in order to map a valid path towards reinforcing the role of the agricultural firm insomuch as EU agricultural policy is concerned. The proposed network models will serve not only to promote understanding and integration amongst the products and agricultural markets of different countries, but also and perhaps most importantly, to stimulate better use of resources which, in the agricultural field, may contribute to improvements in company competitiveness.
Italian to English: Analisi di listeria monocytogenes
Source text - Italian I prodotti della pesca insieme alle carni hanno un livello di contaminazione da parte di listeria monocytogenes superiore rispetto ad altri alimenti quali verdure crude, latte e formaggi (1). Ciò nonostante sono stati segnalati pochi episodi di listeriosi alimentare nell’uomo in seguito al consumo di prodotti della pesca. Questo fatto potrebbe essere attribuito a vari fattori: 1) molto spesso i prodotti della pesca vengono consumati dopo cottura; 2) il microrganismo è in grado di provocare malattia alimentare soltanto quando è presente nell’alimento in cariche superiori a UFC/g o ml; 3) fattori predisponenti per l’infezione sono costituiti da condizioni di immunodepressione delle persone, età avanzata dei soggetti e gravidanza; 4) all’interno della specie, non tutti i ceppi presentano uguale patogenicità: si stima che i ceppi dotati di virulenza possano costituire dall’1,5% al 10%(2). Per quanto riguarda nello specifico i prodotti della pesca, il microrganismo è stato sinora isolato da vari prodotti, sia freschi sia congelati, affumicati, marinati e/o salinati e ciò non deve stupire se si pensa che la listeria monocytogenes è essenzialmente un contaminante ambientale, che facilmente si insedia e persiste là dove sono presenti umidità e sostanza organica (acque superficiali, specialmente quelle dolci, ma anche superfici di lavoro di stabilimenti, ecc.).
Translation - English Fish products and meat have a higher level of contamination with listeria monocytogenes than other food products such as raw vegetables, milk and cheeses (1). In spite of this, few occurrences of human food-related listeria have been reported after consumption of fish products. This may be due to several reasons: 1) often, fish products are eaten cooked; 2) the micro-organism is able to cause food poisoning only when present in the food at levels which exceed UFC/g or ml; 3) predisposition to infection increases with factors such as low immunity, advanced age or pregnancy; 4) within a species, not all strains have the same pathogenicity.: it is estimated that virulent strains represent between just 1.5% and 10% (2). As far as fish products are concerned, the micro-organism has so far been identified in a variety of products, whether fresh, frozen, smoked, marinated or salted – which should not come as any surprise, since listeria monocytogenes is essentially an environmental contaminator which appears easily and thrives in the presence of humidity and organic matter (in shallow waters, especially freshwater, but also on work surfaces in processing plants, etc.).
