Bio

My name is Massimiliano and I have started my career as a professional translator in 2019. I've started doing minor translation jobs a few years before my graduation and all my life has been linked to foreign languages.

In my teenage years I used to spend most of my time with some foreign students, so I had the chance to practice languages everyday. I started travelling very early, with my family, and I never stopped since then. At the end of high school I obtained a French diploma, together with the Italian one. After that I lived and studied in the UK for a full year.

In 2019 I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages and Translation, specializing in English and French. I had already done minor jobs as a translator during my university years, so straight after my graduation I started working as a fully qualified professional translator. I worked in an international team, for the book Roma Subway Art. The whole work was highly reviewed and acclaimed in the art world. The book can be found in Feltrinelli stores and it has been reviewed by various newspapers. No books of this niche had ever had this kind of impact. While translating the book my coworkers all lived in different time zones, so we had to put in a lot of coordination and organization. We had impressively strict deadlines and we had to report everyday. I am currently working on a new publication with the same company.

I am a Volunteer Italian Teacher in Scuolemigranti. This organization promotes social integration of migrants and refugees in Italy through teaching Italian language and culture. I will soon become a fully qualified Italian teacher by obtaining a CEDILS certification in Proficiency in Teaching Italian to Foreigners and also through an apprenticeship I already completed.

I have worked in the fields of logistics and retail. I worked minor retail jobs while studying in the UK. Soon as I went back to Italy my receptiveness to new ideas allowed me to open a vintage retailer, well before the wave of vintage clothing. I was the owner and manager so I had to cover every aspect of the business, from profit and loss, to employees, to stock. I led the activity for a couple years, then sold it, as I started aiming at new goals.

I'm a computer and technology enthusiast. I recently decided to completely switch to Linux, because I feel it supports me more as a user and I love the concept of open source softwares. I had been a Windows user for many years, so my skills are well developed on both OSs. As a CAT tool I'm working with OmegaT, and I really feel is a good open source one. I love technology and I am always open to learn and expand my knowledge of it. I also worked with a lot of sector-specific apps in my previous jobs.

I love to get tested with new skills to learn, or results to bring. Teaching and tutoring made me acquire excellent communication skills together with results focus. I love creating network and interrelating with various personalities in a multicultural environment.
