I am Jeanne, a 24-year-old young graduate with a
master’s degree in translation. I am a French-speaking Belgian citizen. I translate from
English to French and from German to French. I am specialised in audio-visual translation
(subtitling). As a language enthusiast, after my bachelor’s degree in Germanic languages and
literature and my master’s degree in translation, a career in languages seemed pretty natural to
me. Translators are “bridges” between cultures and that’s what attracts me to this job. What’s
more beautiful than helping people from different cultures to understand and communicate
with each other?
After I graduated in September 2019, I decided to start a complementary master’s degree in
journalism. Translation and journalism have one thing in common: communication. This
complementary master’s degree thus represents a chance for me to deepen my knowledge in
the field of communication. It is also a way for me to quench my thirst for continued learning.
During my bachelor’s degree, I was accepted for the Erasmus Programme in England. My
three months there taught me to reach out to new people and stand on my own two feet. In
addition, this exchange helped me to go outside of my comfort zone and to get to know a new
culture. This unforgettable experience helped me grow both on a personal level and on an
academic level.
As part of my master’s degree in translation, I had my first two professional experiences. I
translated two short films for the Brussels Short Film Festival in 2018 and completed a three3
month internship at Babel Subtitling in Liège in 2019. Two enriching experiences, that helped
me get to grips with the professional world. I also had the chance as part of my complementary
master's degree in journalism to do a one month internship at a Belgian local television: TVCom.
Curious and dynamic, I'm always ready to learn new competences and to take on challenges!
