He’d be, you know, tearing down this old shack, or he’d be sweeping up filth or dirt and he started to show me one day and I didn’t believe him about the album and how it got to be so popular. Somebody [in South Africa] had a bootleg copy of this thing and it spread around […] It got to be so popular that children could recite it and sing the songs word for word, all the songs word for word, and I had never heard of the album and I said can you get me an album and he couldn’t even get me one. I mean, that’s how obscure of a thing it was, but he had all these, you know, photos and stuff, with these giant crowds, 20,000 people, like Woodstock or something … Are you kidding me, that’s you? I thought it was photoshopped or something, I didn’t believe him. But he had all these giant crowds and he was quite content to just go and sweep up people’s lawns or clean up and do manual labour.
Translation - French Il était vraiment très célèbre. Il démolissait cette vieille baraque, ou il balayait les saletés et puis un jour il a commencé à me montrer et je ne l'ai pas cru pour l'album et comment il était devenu si populaire. Quelqu'un [en Afrique du Sud] avait une copie de ce truc de contrebande et ça s’est répandu [...] Il est devenu si populaire que les enfants pouvaient réciter et chanter les chansons mot pour mot, toutes les chansons mot pour mot, et je n'avais jamais entendu parler de l'album et j'ai dit : "Tu peux m'avoir un album" et il n'a même pas pu m'en avoir un. Je veux dire, c'était vraiment sombre, mais il avait toutes ces, vous savez, photos et autres, avec ces foules géantes, 20 000 personnes, comme Woodstock ou quelque chose comme ça ... Tu plaisantes, c'est toi ? Je pensais que c'était un montage Photoshop ou quelque chose comme ça, je ne le croyais pas. Mais toutes ces foules énormes étaient là pour lui et il se contentait d'aller balayer les pelouses des gens ou de nettoyer et de faire du travail physique.
