Source text - German Er hatte sich eine Füllfeder gekauft.
Nachdem er mehrmals seine Unterschrift, dann seine Initialen, seine Adresse, einige Wellenlinien, dann die Adresse seiner Eltern auf ein Blatt gezeichnet hatte, nahm er einen neuen Bogen, faltete ihn sorgfältig und schrieb:„Mir ist es hier zu kalt“, dann „ich gehe nach Südamerika“, dann hielt er inne, schraubte die Kappe auf die Feder, betrachtete den Bogen und sah, wie die Tinte eintrocknete und dunkel wurde (in der Papeterie garantierte man, daß sie schwarz werde), dann nahm er seine Feder erneut zur Hand und setzte noch großzügig seinen Namen Paul darunter.
Dann saß er da.
Später räumte er die Zeitungen vom Tisch, überflog dabei die Kinoinserate, dachte an irgend etwas, schob den Aschenbecher beiseite, zerriß den Zettel mit den Wellenlinien, entleerte seine Feder und füllte sie wieder. Für die Kinovorstellung war es jetzt zu spät.
Die Probe des Kirchenchores dauert bis neun Uhr, um halb zehn würde Hildegard zurück sein. Er wartete auf Hildegard. Zu all dem Musik aus dem Radio. Jetzt drehte er das Radio ab.
Auf dem Tisch, mitten auf dem Tisch, lag nun der gefaltete Bogen, darauf stand in blauschwarzer Schrift sein Name Paul.
„Mir ist es hier zu kalt“, stand auch darauf.
Nun würde also Hildegard heimkommen, um halb zehn. Es war jetzt neun Uhr. Sie läse seine Mitteilung, erschräke dabei, glaubte wohl das mit Südamerika nicht, würde dennoch die Hemden im Kasten zählen, etwas müßte ja geschehen sein.
Sie würde in den „Löwen“ telefonieren.
Der „Löwen“ ist mittwochs geschlossen.
Sie würde lächeln und verzweifeln und sich damit abfinden, vielleicht.
Sie würde sich mehrmals die Haare aus dem Gesicht streichen, mit dem Ringfinger der linken Hand beidseitig der Schläfe entlang fahren, dann langsam den Mantel aufknöpfen.
Dann saß er da, überlegte, wem er einen Brief schreiben könnte, las die Gebrauchsanweisung für den Füller noch einmal – leicht nach rechts drehen – las auch den französischen Text, verglich den englischen mit dem deutschen, sah wieder seinen Zettel, dachte an Palmen, dachte an Hildegard.
Saß da.
Und um halb zehn kam Hildegard und fragte:„Schlafen die Kinder?“. Sie strich sich die Haare aus dem Gesicht.

Después de trazar varias veces en una hoja su firma, sus iniciales, su dirección, algunas líneas onduladas y la dirección de sus padres, tomó una hoja nueva, la dobló con cuidado y escribió: “Aquí hace mucho frío para mí”, después añadió: “Me voy a Sudamérica”. Luego se detuvo, enroscó la tapa de la pluma, observó la hoja, vio cómo la tinta se secaba y oscurecía (en la papelería le habían garantizado que al secarse se tornaría negra), después volvió a tomar la pluma y puso Paul, su nombre, con gran amplitud.
Luego se sentó allí.
Más tarde, ordenó los periódicos que estaban sobre la mesa, ojeó la cartelera, pensó en algo, puso el cenicero a un lado, rompió la hoja con las líneas onduladas, vació su pluma y la rellenó. Ya era muy tarde para la función del cine.
El ensayo del coro de la iglesia terminaba a las nueve, Hildegard estaría de vuelta a las nueve y media. La estaba esperando. A toda la música de la radio. Entonces apagó el radio.

Se apartaría el cabello de la cara varias veces, se pasaría el dedo anular de la mano izquierda por ambos lados de la sien y luego se desabrocharía el abrigo lentamente.
Entonces se sentó allí, reflexionando, preguntándose a quién podría escribirle una carta, leyó las instrucciones de la pluma fuente una vez más; decía que había que girarla ligeramente hacia la derecha, leyó también el texto en francés, comparó el texto en inglés con el alemán, miró otra vez su hoja, pensó en palmeras, pensó en Hildegard.
Se sentó allí.
A las nueve y media llegó Hildegard a casa y preguntó: “¿Están dormidos los niños?” Se apartó el cabello de la cara.

Once upon a time there lived a King and Queen. They had three sons, two of them with their wits about them, but the third a simpleton. Now the King had a deer park in which were quantities of wild animals of different kinds. Into that park there used to come a huge beast--Norka was its name--and do fearful mischief, devouring some of the animals every night. The King did all he could, but he was unable to destroy it. So at last he called his sons together and said, `Whoever will destroy the Norka, to him will I give the half of my kingdom.'
Well, the eldest son undertook the task. As soon as it was night, he took his weapons and set out. But before he reached the park, he went into a traktir (or tavern), and there he spent the whole night in revelry. When he came to his senses it was too late; the day had already dawned. He felt himself disgraced in the eyes of his father, but there was no help for it. The next day the second son went, and did just the same. Their father scolded them both soundly, and there was an end of it.
Well, on the third day the youngest son undertook the task. They all laughed him to scorn, because he was so stupid, feeling sure he wouldn't do anything. But he took his arms, and went straight into the park, and sat down on the grass in such a position that the moment he went asleep his weapons would prick him, and he would awake.
Presently the midnight hour sounded. The earth began to shake, and the Norka came rushing up, and burst right through the fence into the park, so huge was it. The Prince pulled himself together, leapt to his feet, crossed himself, and went straight at the beast. It fled back, and the Prince ran after it. But he soon saw that he couldn't catch it on foot, so he hastened to the stable, laid his hands on the best horse there, and set off in pursuit. Presently he came up with the beast, and they began a fight. They fought and fought; the Prince gave the beast three wounds. At last they were both utterly exhausted, so they lay down to take a short rest. But the moment the Prince closed his eyes, up jumped the beast and took to flight. The Prince's horse awoke him; up he jumped in a moment, and set off again in pursuit, caught up the beast, and again began fighting with it. Again the Prince gave the beast three wounds, and then he and the beast lay down again to rest. Thereupon away fled the beast as before. The Prince caught it up, and again gave it three wounds. But all of a sudden, just as the Prince began chasing it for the fourth time, the beast fled to a great white stone, tilted it up, and escaped into the other world, crying out to the Prince: `Then only will you overcome me, when you enter here.'
The Prince went home, told his father all that had happened, and asked him to have a leather rope plaited, long enough to reach to the other world. His father ordered this to be done. When the rope was made, the Prince called for his brothers, and he and they, having taken servants with them, and everything that was needed for a whole year, set out for the place where the beast had disappeared under the stone. When they got there, they built a palace on the spot, and lived in it for some time. But when everything was ready, the youngest brother said to the others: `Now, brothers, who is going to lift this stone?'
Neither of them could so much as stir it, but as soon as he touched it, away it flew to a distance, though it was ever so big-- big as a hill. And when he had flung the stone aside, he spoke a second time to his brothers, saying:
`Who is going into the other world, to overcome the Norka?'
Neither of them offered to do so. Then he laughed at them for being such cowards, and said:
`Well, brothers, farewell! Lower me into the other world, and don't go away from here, but as soon as the cord is jerked, pull it up.'
His brothers lowered him accordingly, and when he had reached the other world, underneath the earth, he went on his way. He walked and walked. Presently he espied a horse with rich trappings, and it said to him:
`Hail, Prince Ivan! Long have I awaited thee!'
He mounted the horse and rode on--rode and rode, until he saw standing before him a palace made of copper. He entered the courtyard, tied up his horse, and went indoors. In one of the rooms a dinner was laid out. He sat down and dined, and then went into a bedroom. There he found a bed, on which he lay down to rest. Presently there came in a lady, more beautiful than can be imagined anywhere but in a fairy tale, who said:
`Thou who art in my house, name thyself! If thou art an old man, thou shalt be my father; if a middle-aged man, my brother; but if a young man, thou shalt be my husband dear. And if thou art a woman, and an old one, thou shalt be my grandmother; if middle-aged, my mother; and if a girl, thou shalt be my own sister.'
Thereupon he came forth. And when she saw him she was delighted with him, and said:
`Wherefore, O Prince Ivan--my husband dear shalt thou be!-- wherefore hast thou come hither?'
Then he told her all that had happened, and she said:
`That beast which thou wishest to overcome is my brother. He is staying just now with my second sister, who lives not far from here in a silver palace. I bound up three of the wounds which thou didst give him.'
Well, after this they drank, and enjoyed themselves, and held sweet converse together, and then the Prince took leave of her, and went on to the second sister, the one who lived in the silver palace, and with her also he stayed awhile. She told him that her brother Norka was then at her youngest sister's. So he went on to the youngest sister, who lived in a golden palace. She told him that her brother was at that time asleep on the blue sea, and she gave him a sword of steel and a draught of the Water of Strength, and she told him to cut off her brother's head at a single stroke. And when he had heard these things, he went his way.
And when the Prince came to the blue sea, he looked--there slept the Norka on a stone in the middle of the sea; and when it snored, the water was agitated for seven miles around. The Prince crossed himself, went up to it, and smote it on the head with his sword. The head jumped off, saying the while, `Well, I'm done for now!' and rolled far away into the sea.
After killing the beast, the Prince went back again, picking up all the three sisters by the way, with the intention of taking them out into the upper world: for they all loved him and would not be separated from him. Each of them turned her palace into an egg --for they were all enchantresses--and they taught him how to turn the eggs into palaces, and back again, and they handed over the eggs to him. And then they all went to the place from which they had to be hoisted into the upper world. And when they came to where the rope was, the Prince took hold of it and made the maidens fast to it. Then he jerked away at the rope and his brothers began to haul it up. And when they had hauled it up, and had set eyes on the wondrous maidens, they went aside and said: `Let's lower the rope, pull our brother part of the way up, and then cut the rope. Perhaps he'll be killed; but then if he isn't, he'll never give us these beauties as wives.'
So when they had agreed on this, they lowered the rope. But their brother was no fool; he guessed what they were at, so he fastened the rope to a stone, and then gave it a pull. His brothers hoisted the stone to a great height, and then cut the rope. Down fell the stone and broke in pieces; the Prince poured forth tears and went away. Well, he walked and walked. Presently a storm arose; the lightning flashed, the thunder roared, the rain fell in torrents. He went up to a tree in order to take shelter under it, and on that tree he saw some young birds which were being thoroughly drenched. So he took off his coat and covered them over with it, and he himself sat down under the tree. Presently there came flying a bird--such a big one that the light was blotted out by it. It had been dark there before, but now it became darker still. Now this was the mother of those small birds which the Prince had covered up. And when the bird had come flying up, she perceived that her little ones were covered over, and she said, `Who has wrapped up my nestlings?' and presently, seeing the Prince, she added: `Didst thou do that? Thanks! In return, ask of me anything thou desirest. I will do anything for thee.'
`Then carry me into the other world,' he replied.
`Make me a large vessel with a partition in the middle,' she said; `catch all sorts of game, and put them into one half of it, and into the other half pour water; so that there may be meat and drink for me.'
All this the Prince did. Then the bird--having taken the vessel on her back, with the Prince sitting in the middle of it-- began to fly. And after flying some distance she brought him to his journey's end, took leave of him, and flew away back. But he went to the house of a certain tailor, and engaged himself as his servant. So much the worse for wear was he, so thoroughly had he altered in appearance, that nobody would have suspected him of being a Prince.
Having entered into the service of this master, the Prince began to ask what was going on in that country. And his master replied: `Our two Princes--for the third one has disappeared--have brought away brides from the other world, and want to marry them, but those brides refuse. For they insist on having all their wedding- clothes made for them first, exactly like those which they used to have in the other world, and that without being measured for them. The King has called all the workmen together, but not one of them will undertake to do it.'
The Prince, having heard all this, said, `Go to the King, master, and tell him that you will provide everything that's in your line.'
`However can I undertake to make clothes of that sort? I work for quite common folks,' says his master.
`Go along, master! I will answer for everything,' says the Prince.
So the tailor went. The King was delighted that at least one good workman had been found, and gave him as much money as ever he wanted. When his tailor had settled everything, he went home. And the Prince said to him:
`Now then, pray to God, and lie down to sleep; to-morrow all will be ready.' And the tailor followed his lad's advice, and went to bed.
Midnight sounded. The Prince arose, went out of the city into the fields, took out of his pocket the eggs which the maidens had given him, and, as they had taught him, turned them into three palaces. Into each of these he entered, took the maidens' robes, went out again, turned the palaces back into eggs, and went home. And when he got there he hung up the robes on the wall, and lay down to sleep.
Early in the morning his master awoke, and behold! there hung such robes as he had never seen before, all shining with gold and silver and precious stones. He was delighted, and he seized them and carried them off to the King. When the Princesses saw that the clothes were those which had been theirs in the other world, they guessed that Prince Ivan was in this world, so they exchanged glances with each other, but they held their peace. And the master, having handed over the clothes, went home, but he no longer found his dear journeyman there. For the Prince had gone to a shoemaker's, and him too he sent to work for the King; and in the same way he went the round of all the artificers, and they all proffered him thanks, inasmuch as through him they were enriched by the King.
By the time the princely workman had gone the round of all the artificers, the Princesses had received what they had asked for; all their clothes were just like what they had been in the other world. Then they wept bitterly because the Prince had not come, and it was impossible for them to hold out any longer; it was necessary that they should be married. But when they were ready for the wedding, the youngest bride said to the King:
`Allow me, my father, to go and give alms to the beggars.'
He gave her leave, and she went and began bestowing alms upon them, and examining them closely. And when she had come to one of them, and was going to give him some money, she caught sight of the ring which she had given to the Prince in the other world, and her sisters' rings too--for it really was he. So she seized him by the hand, and brought him into the hall, and said to the King:
`Here is he who brought us out of the other world. His brothers forbade us to say that he was alive, threatening to slay us if we did.'
Then the King was wroth with those sons, and punished them as he thought best. And afterwards three weddings were celebrated.
Translation - Spanish Había una vez un rey y una reina que tenían tres hijos; dos de ellos estaban siempre alertas, pero el tercero no era muy listo que digamos. El rey tenía un parque de venados en el que había varios animales de diferentes tipos. A ese parque solía llegar una bestia enorme que se llamaba Norka y que causaba destrozos y devoraba a unos cuantos animales cada noche. El rey hacía todo lo que podía, pero no lograba destruirlo. Así, finalmente, reunió a sus hijos y les dijo: “Le daré la mitad de mi reino a quien destruya al Norka”.
El hijo mayor aceptó el reto. Tan pronto anocheció, tomó sus armas y se dispuso a enfrentar al Norka. Pero antes de llegar al parque fue a una taberna y ahí se pasó la noche de juerga. Cuando volvió en sí, ya era muy tarde; ya había amanecido. Sintió mucha vergüenza de lo que pensaría su padre, pero no podía evitarlo. Al día siguiente, el segundo hijo se alistó de igual manera y acabó haciendo lo mismo. Su padre los reprendió duramente y ahí quedó el asunto.
El tercer día, el hijo menor dijo que emprendería la tarea. Todos se rieron de él, porque era muy tonto; estaban seguros de que no haría nada. Pero él tomó sus armas y se fue directamente al parque y se sentó sobre el pasto de manera tal que en el momento en que comenzara a quedarse dormido, sus propias armas le darían un pinchazo despertándolo.
Llegó la medianoche. La tierra comenzó a temblar y el Norka apareció corriendo, rompió la cerca del parque de lo grande que era. El príncipe se armó de valor, dio un pequeño salto, se persignó y se dirigió directamente hacia la bestia, la cual huyó y el príncipe corrió detrás. Pronto se dio cuenta de que no podría darle alcance a pie, por lo que fue rápidamente al establo, tomó el mejor caballo y continuó su persecución. Al cabo de un tiempo alcanzó a la bestia y comenzaron a pelear; pelearon y pelearon y el príncipe lo hirió tres veces. Al cabo de un rato ambos quedaron exhaustos, por lo que se recostaron un momento para descansar. Pero en cuanto el príncipe cerró los ojos, la bestia se levantó de un salto y huyó. El caballo del príncipe lo despertó; montó sobre él y continuó su persecución, alcanzó a la bestia y volvieron a pelear. De nuevo volvió a herir tres veces a la bestia y una vez más se sentaron a descansar. El Norka volvió a huir, el príncipe volvió a darle alcance y lo hirió tres veces más. El príncipe se fue a casa, le dijo a su padre lo que había ocurrido y le pidió que le consiguiera una cuerda hecha de piel, lo suficientemente larga para que llegara al otro mundo. Una vez que la cuerda estuvo lista, el príncipe mandó llamar a sus hermanos y a algunos sirvientes a quienes pidió que prepararan provisiones para todo un año y se dirigieron adonde la bestia había desaparecido huyendo por debajo de una piedra. Cuando llegaron al lugar construyeron un palacio y vivieron ahí un tiempo, pero cuando todo estuvo listo, el hijo menor le dijo a los otros: “Muy bien, hermanos, ¿quién de ustedes va a levantar esta piedra?”
Ninguno de ellos pudo hacer más que moverla un poco. Sin embargo, apenas él tocó la piedra, ésta salió volando a pesar de que era tan grande como una montaña. Y una vez que hizo a un lado la piedra gigante, les dijo a sus hermanos:
—¿Quién viene conmigo al otro mundo para derrotar al Norka?
Ninguno de ellos se ofreció a hacerlo. Entonces se burló de ellos por su cobardía y les dijo:
—¡Adiós, hermanos! Bájenme al otro mundo y no se muevan de aquí. En cuanto tire de la cuerda, súbanme.
Sus hermanos lo bajaron con la cuerda y una vez que llegó al otro mundo se soltó de la cuerda y continuó su camino por debajo de la tierra. Caminó y caminó. Después de un rato encontró un caballo con arreos muy finos que le dijo:
—¡Te saludo, príncipe Iván, he esperado mucho tiempo tu llegada!
Montó en el caballo y continuó el viaje avanzando cada vez más y más hasta que vio frente a él un palacio hecho de bronce. Llegó al patio, ató el caballo y entró al palacio. En uno de los cuartos había una cena servida; se sentó, cenó y luego fue a una de las habitaciones en la que encontró una cama sobre la que se recostó para descansar. Al poco tiempo se acercó una dama, más hermosa de lo que se podría imaginar salvo en un cuento de hadas, que le dijo:
—Tú que estás en mi casa, dime tu nombre. Si eres un hombre viejo, habrás de ser mi padre; si eres de edad mediana, mi hermano; si eres joven habrás de ser mi querido esposo. Y si eres una mujer anciana, habrás de ser mi abuela; si de edad mediana, mi madre; y si eres una muchacha, habrás de ser mi hermana.
Entonces la mujer se le acercó y al ver al príncipe quedó fascinada con él.
—¿De dónde has venido, príncipe Iván, que serás mi esposo amado?
Y él le contó lo que había ocurrido.
—Esa bestia a la que buscas dar caza es mi hermano. En este momento se encuentra con mi segunda hermana, que vive cerca de aquí en un palacio de plata. Le curé tres de las heridas que le hiciste.
Después de estas palabras bebieron y se divirtieron y tuvieron una conversación muy agradable, luego el príncipe se fue y se dirigió a donde vivía la segunda hermana, la del palacio de plata, con quien también se quedó un rato. Ella le dijo que su hermano estaba con su hermana menor, que vivía en un palacio de oro. Ella le dijo que su hermano estaba dormido en el mar azul y le dio una espada de acero y un trago del Agua de la Fuerza y le dijo que le cortara la cabeza a su hermano de un solo tajo. Después de escuchar esto, continuó con su camino.
Y cuando el príncipe llegó al mar azul vio al Norka que dormía sobre una piedra en medio del mar; cuando roncaba, el agua del mar se agitaba hasta once kilómetros a la redonda. Cada una convirtió su palacio en un huevo —pues las tres eran hechiceras— y le enseñaron cómo convertir los huevos en palacios y en huevos nuevamente y le dieron a él los huevos. Y así llegaron al lugar en el que tendrían que transportarlos al mundo de arriba. Encontraron la cuerda y el príncipe hizo que las tres doncellas se ataran con ella. Luego tiró de la cuerda y sus hermanos comenzaron a jalar. Y cuando hubieron terminado de jalar la cuerda y vieron a las hermosas doncellas, dijeron aparte: “Bajemos la cuerda, subamos a nuestro hermano una parte del trayecto y luego cortemos la cuerda. A lo mejor lo matan, pero si no lo hacemos, nunca nos daría por esposas a estas bellezas”.
Una vez que estuvieron de acuerdo, bajaron la cuerda. Pero su hermano no era ningún tonto, él ya sabía lo que planeaban hacer, por lo que ató una piedra a la cuerda y tiró de ella. Sus hermanos levantaron la piedra a una buena altura y cortaron la cuerda. La piedra calló y se hizo pedazos; el príncipe soltó algunas lágrimas y se fue. Caminó y caminó y de pronto comenzó una tormenta; los relámpagos iluminaron el cielo y los truenos retumbaron, la lluvia cayó. Se subió a un árbol para guarecerse del agua. Ahí encontró a unos pajarillos empapados, por lo que se quitó su abrigo y los cubrió con él y se sentó al pie del árbol. Al cabo de un rato llegó un ave muy grande, tanto que le tapó la luz. Ya era un poco oscuro el lugar, pero ahora estaba muy oscuro. Era la madre de los pajarillos que el príncipe había cubierto. Y cuando el ave vio que sus polluelos estaban tapados dijo: “¿Quién ha envuelto mi nido?” y apenas acabó de decirlo cuando vio al príncipe y añadió: “¿Fuiste tú? ¡Muchas gracias! En agradecimiento, puedes pedirme cualquier cosa que desees y yo lo haré por ti”.
—Llévame cargando al otro mundo.
—Construye un recipiente grande dividido en dos —le dijo el ave—. Atrapa todo tipo de presas de caza y ponlos en una de las mitades del recipiente, la otra mitad llénala de agua. Así tendré carne y agua para mí.
El príncipe siguió las indicaciones. Luego el ave comenzó a volar —tras haberse echado el recipiente en la espalda, con el príncipe sentado en el centro. Y después de volar un buen rato lo llevó hasta su destino, lo dejó ahí y regresó. Y el príncipe se fue a la casa de cierto sastre y se hizo su ayudante. Tanto había cambiado su aspecto a causa de los trabajos por los que había pasado, que nadie sospechó que se trataba de un príncipe.
Después de entrar a trabajar para el maestro sastre, el príncipe le preguntó qué pasaba en el país, a lo que el sastre respondió: “Nuestros dos príncipes —pues el tercero desapareció— han traído a sus novias del otro mundo y quieren casarse con ellas, pero ellas se niegan. Insisten en que primero se les hagan los vestidos para la boda, exactamente iguales a los que tenían en el otro mundo y sin que les tomen las medidas. El rey ha mandado llamar a todos los sastres, pero ninguno acepta el trabajo”.
Entonces el príncipe dijo: “Maestro, ve con el rey y dile que tú puedes cumplir con el trabajo”.
—¿Cómo voy a comprometerme a hacer vestidos de ese tipo? Yo trabajo para gente común.
—Hazlo, maestro, yo respondo por el trabajo.
Y el sastre fue a la corte. El rey estaba feliz de ver que al menos un sastre había aceptado y le dio mucho dinero. Cuando todo estuvo listo se fue a casa y el príncipe le dijo: “Ahora, rézale a Dios y vete a dormir, mañana todo estará listo”. El sastre siguió el consejo de su ayudante y se fue a dormir.
Sonó el llamado de la medianoche. El príncipe se levantó, salió de la ciudad hacia el bosque, sacó del bolsillo los huevos que le habían dado las doncellas y, tal como le habían enseñado, los convirtió en tres palacios. Entró en cada uno de ellos y tomó los vestidos de las doncellas, luego salió, convirtió los castillos en huevos otra vez y se fue a casa. Al llegar, colgó los vestidos en la pared y se echó a dormir.
A la mañana siguiente se despertó el sastre y ahí estaban esos vestidos colgados, como nunca había visto antes, todos brillaban con los engarces de oro, plata y piedras preciosas. Estaba fascinado, los tomó y se los llevó al rey. Cuando las princesas vieron que los vestidos eran los que habían sido suyos, adivinaron que el príncipe Iván estaba en este mundo, por lo que intercambiaron miradas entre sí, pero mantuvieron la paz. El sastre, tras haber entregado la ropa, se fue a casa, pero al llegar ya no encontró a su ayudante.
El príncipe había ido a ver a un zapatero, al que también envió con el rey del mismo modo, y así sucesivamente con otros artífices de los preparativos para la boda. Todos le daban las gracias, pues a través de él, el rey los hacía más ricos.
Para cuando terminó de enviar a todos los ayudantes, las princesas ya habían recibido todo lo que habían pedido: todas sus ropas eran iguales a las que tenían en el otro mundo. Luego lloraron amargamente porque el príncipe no había venido con ellas y ya no podían posponer más sus bodas. Pero cuando ya estaban listas para la boda, la novia más joven le dijo al rey:
—Padre mío, permíteme ir a darle limosna a los mendigos.
El rey le dio permiso y ella fue a repartir limosna; mientras lo hacía observaba cuidadosamente a los mendigos. Cuando llegó con uno en particular, y estaba a punto de darle algo de dinero, vio el anillo que le había dado al príncipe en el otro mundo y también vio los anillos de sus hermanas, pues era el príncipe en persona. Entonces ella lo tomó de la mano y lo condujo hasta el salón y le dijo al rey:
—Aquí está el que nos trajo del otro mundo. Sus hermanos nos prohibieron decir que estaba vivo, nos habían amenazado con asesinarlo si hablábamos.
Entonces el rey se enojó muchísimo con sus hijos y los castigó como a él le pareció mejor. Después del castigo se celebraron tres bodas.

I have studied Hispanic language and literature as my first degree and I have a PhD in literature from a British university (UEA). I have studied German for 6 years now. I am also a published author myself. That means: I do not translate just because I speak these languages. I am passionate about translation and I have studied to become a professional one. Even though I mostly translate literature and social-science texts, I have also translated texts about sports, nutrition, health, science, and music.
I also teach literary translation, Spanish, English and German at two different universities in Mexico City.
