Source text - Danish ENGLISH TEXT: THE AUTHORIZED KIERKEGAARD-READER
According to any earnest and honest author, it ought to be self-evident that any one of his readers has an inborn expectation to be pointed towards the essential subject-matter of the text as early as possible. And this statement indeed concerns you, my dear reader, because you are in this and every case Kierkegaard's main subject., namely his included reader. You, who remains identical with one beloved reader in the author writing these exact lines. Precisely, therefore, the addressed reader, indeed, was one of Kierkegaard's most cherished concepts or idiomatic expressions. An idiom which he frequently repeated in a lifelong process of the myriads of his daily penned writings in printed Works, Papers, Journals and Notebooks. A penning process, which always unified itself with his day-to-day existence.

Forord
________
Betydningen ligger i Tilegnelsen. Deraf Bogens glade Hengivelse.

_____________
Although this little book — occasional discourses, as it could be titled, even though it neither has the occasion that calls for a speaker and which would make him an authority nor the occasion that calls for the reader and makes him a learner — is entirely unsolicited and thus in its deficiency has no excuse for itself, and since it is not prompted by any circumstances and therefore helpless in bringing itself to completion, it is still not without hope and above all not without bold courage. It seeks that single individual, whom, with joy and gratitude, I call my reader—or it does not seek him at all. Without knowing the time and hour, it waits in silence for the one true reader to come as the bridegroom and bring the occasion with him. Each one does his part, the reader indeed most of all. The meaning lies in the act of appropriation. Hence the joyful giving of itself by the book. Here, there is no worldly mine and yours that separates and forbids appropriating what belongs to the neighbour. For admiration is also a little envy and as such a misunderstanding; criticism, justified as it may be, is also a little resistance and as such a misunderstanding; and recognition in the mirror is only a fleeting acquaintance and as such a misunderstanding—but seeing what is real and not wanting to forget what the powerless mirror is not able to bring forward that is the act of appropriation. And the act of appropriation is in the largest part the reader’s own—it is his victorious giving of himself.

“If anybody bothered to set a watch today, how would they know what to set it to? If you’re like most people these days, you’d set it to the time on your smartphone. But if you look at your phone, and I mean really look at it, burrowing deep through its menus into its settings, you’ll eventually see that the phone’s time is “automatically set”. Every so often, your phone quietly—silently—asks your service provider’s network, “Hey, do you have the time?”. That network, in turn, asks a bigger network, which asks an even bigger network, and so on through a great succession of towers and wires until the request reaches one of the true masters of time, a Network Time Server run by or referenced against the atomic clocks kept at places like the National Institute of Standards and Technology in The United States…That long invisible journey, accomplished in a fraction of a second, is why you don’t see a blinking 12.00 on your phone’s screen every time you power it up again after its battery runs out.”

Hashish, which is better known simply as the term "hash" in modern times, is a drug made from the compressing and processing trichomes of the cannabis plant. Hash and hash-making have an awfully long history. It is consumed by smoking, typically in a pipe, bong, vaporizer or joint, or sometimes via oral ingestion. Hash has a deep far-reaching past in the East, in countries such as Afghanistan, India, Iran, Morocco, and Pakistan, to name a few. In the western world, hash consumption is widespread, mainly in Europe, where it is the most common form of cannabis used. In the United States, the vast majority of cannabis users prefer dried flowers or concentrates. However, with recent changes in the law, hash has seen a slight but significant rise in popularity. Like many recreational drugs, multiple synonyms and alternative names for hash exist and vary greatly depending on the country and native language.

Bio
👀 I have 7 years of experience translating from Danish into English, and vice versa. These days, I am finishing my PhD-dissertation in existential philosophy according to the Danish theologian Søren Kierkegaard. I hold a Candidate University Degree in theology from 1995 and a Gold Diplomate Exam in Logotherapy from 2012, moreover, I have published several artworks with pictures of paintings, drawings and poetry with a good friend who is a professional painter. I dare safely say that at present, I hold creative language skills in Danish-English and that these skills over the years have been burrowed to a greater depth thanks to my Latin-skills from my years as a teaching-assistant at Århus University, Denmark. I read Greek, Latin, German, English and Danish, and has been doing so ever since my early student-days in the 1980ties.👀
