الموجة الأولى
ظهرت الموجة الأولى للنسوية في القرن التاسع عشر وأوائل القرن العشرين في المملكة المتحدة والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وتركزت مطالبها حول المساواة في الحقوق السياسية وحقوق المواطنة للمرأة. ركزت هذه الحركة بشكل كبير على الحقوق السياسية وحق التصويت للنساء، وأسهمت بشكل كبير في تقدم تعليم الإناث باعتباره الأساس الذي يبنى عليه الحق في التصويت والمشاركة السياسية.
نجحت الحركة في انتزاع حق التصويت للإناث فوق الثلاثين عاماً واللواتي يمتلكن منازل في بريطانيا عام 1918م ثم تم تعديل القانون ليسمح بتصويت الإناث فوق سن الواحد والعشرين عام 1928م، بينما حُسمت مسألة حق التصويت في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية في العام 1919م حيث مُنحت النساء حقّ التصويت بموجب الإعلان الدستوري الذي منحهن هذا الحق على مستوى جميع الولايات الأمريكية.
الموجة الثانية
بدأت الموجة الثانية للنسوية ضمن المد السياسي العام الذي رافق فترة الستينيات وذلك بعد الانتكاسة التي شهدها وضع النساء الاجتماعي والاقتصادي في الولايات المتحدة وأوروبا بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية. اهتمت الموجة الثانية بشكل كبير بمحاربة الأوضاع الاجتماعية للنساء المبنية على الإقصاء والتحيز والتنميط، وجاءت هذه الموجة ردًا على الفصل القاسي الذي أحدثته الليبرالية بين ما هو عام وما هو خاص باعتبار أن النساء يمثلن الجانب الخاص من المجتمع.
شهد عام 1949م الإسهام الشهير للفيلسوفة والأديبة الفرنسية سيمون دي بوفوار في كتابها «الجنس الآخر» والذي أشارت فيه إلى أن النساء لا يولدن كذلك، إنما يصبحن نساءً بعد الولادة ضمن عملية صناعة اجتماعية ممتدة تُصوّر النساء باعتبارهن آخر، باعتبارهن غير اعتياديات ومختلّفات عن الأصل حتى إن الفيلسوفة النسوية الأشهر ماري ولستونكرافت اعتبرت أن الرجل هو الحالة المثالية التي يجب أن تتطلع إليها كل النساء. تشير سيمون إلى أن الحركة النسوية لن تحدث أي تقدم في وضع النساء الاجتماعي مالم تتخل عن هذا وهذه النظرة تجاه النساء.
الموجة الثالثة
بدأت الموجة الثالثة للنسوية في أوائل التسعينيات كرد فعل على فشل الموجة الثانية في مواجهة العديد من المشكلات والانتقادات التي وجهت لها باعتبارها تسعى لتحرير امرأة الطبقة الوسطى العليا البيضاء. لم تتبنَ هذه الموجة وجهة نظر واحدة ومتّسقة حول قضايا المرأة وكان لها منطلقات عديدة بين وجهات النظر التي اعترفت بوجود فرق سيكولوجي حقيقي بين الرجل والمرأة وأخرى ترى عدم وجود فروق ثابتة ومتوارثة إنما ينتج الفرق من عملية التكييف المجتمعي التي تفرض على المرأة.
The First Wave:
The first wave of feminism emerged between the 19th century and the beginning of the 21st century in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Its demands were centred around equality of political rights and citizenship rights for women. This movement focused largely on political rights and the right for women to vote, contributing greatly to the progress of female education as the basis on which the right to vote and political participation are set.
The movement succeeded in obtaining the right for women - over thirty years of age and British home owners – to vote in 1918, the law was then amended to grant women over the age of twenty one to vote. However the issue regarding the right to vote was resolved in the United States in 1918, when women were granted the right to vote under the Constitutional Declaration which granted them this right across all US states.
The Second Wave:
The second wave of feminism began within the general political wave that accompanied the 1960’s and subsequent setback witnessed by the social and political position of women in America and Europe after the Second World War. The second wave was largely concerned with fighting women’s social conditions which were based on exclusion, prejudice and stereotyping, in response to the harsh segregation caused by liberalism between the public and the private, which considered women to represent the private side of society.
1949 saw the famous contribution (to feminism) by the French philosopher and writer Simone de Beauvoir in her book entitled, “The Second Sex”, in which she pointed out that women were not born women, but rather they become women after birth, as part of an extended socialisation process which depicts women as ‘the other’, considering them unusual and different to ‘the original’. Even the most famous feminism philosopher, Marie Wollstonecraft considered men to be the ideal situation to which all women should aspire. Simone points out that the feminism movement will not succeed in making any progress regarding the social status of women unless they abandon this view of women.
The Third Wave:
The third wave of feminism began in the early 1990’s as a response to the failure of the second wave, which faced many problems and criticisms due to it being considered a strive towards the liberation of white middle-class women. This wave of feminism did not adopt one, consistent view point regarding women’s issues and had many premises of points of view that recognised the existence of actual psychological differences between men and women. Other viewpoints believed in a complete lack of definitive or inherited differences, but rather that the difference produced is as a result of social conditioning imposed upon women.
