Political Violence Against Women in De-democratization Scenarios: New elements of the same phenomenon?

1. Introduction
Political violence against women, or violence against women in politics, is not a new phenomenon and is certainly not a characteristic that is exclusive to the current de-democratization period, marked by the articulation and strengthening of neoconservatism and neoliberalism (Brown, 2006) (Almeida, 2018). More specifically
focusing on Latin America, debates about political violence against women date back at least to the late 1990s, when the first cases of political violence were reported in Bolivia (Restrepo Sanin, 2018).
However, the growing visibility of conservative movements in the region, increasingly coordinated around an antigender agenda (Corridor, 2019) (Bracke; Paternotte, 2017) also linked to the de-regulation and de-democratization flags of the neoliberal project (Walby, 2018) and its founding rationale, which is based on attacks to
social justice and the maintainance of race and gender hierarchies (Brown, 2019), seems to represent a specific scenario for political violence against women. My project seeks to investigate this relationship between continuous forms of political violence against
women and the neoliberal and neoconservative de-democratization project. The project is inspired by the following question: Does the political strengthening of conservative groups in Latin America bring within itself updated forms of political violence against women?
