Source text - English CHAPTER ONE
My father was a king and the sons of kings. He was a short man, as most of us were, and built like a bull, all shoulders. He married my mother when she was fourteen and sworn by the priestess to be fruitful. It was a good match: she was an only child, and her father’s fortune would go to her husband.
He did not find out until the wedding that she was simple. Her father had been scrupulous about keeping her veiled until the ceremony, and my father had humoured him. If she was ugly, there were always slave girls and serving boys. When at last they pulled off the veil, they say my mother smiled. That is how they knew she was quite stupid. Brides did not smile.
When I was delivered, a boy, he plucked me from her arms and handed me to a nurse. In pity, the midwife gave my mother a pillow to hold instead of me. My mother hugged it. She did not seem to notice a change had been made.
Quickly, I became a disappointment: small, slight. I was not fast. I was not strong. I could not sing. The best that could be said of me was that I was not sickly. The colds and cramps that seized my peers left me untouched. This only made my father suspicious. Was I a changeling, inhuman? He scowled at me, watching. My hand shook, feeling his gaze. And there was my mother, dribbling wine on herself.

Ayahku adalah seorang raja dari keturunan para raja. Seperti kebanyakan dari kami, dia pendek dan kekar seperti kerbau dengan bahu yang tegap. Saat ibuku berumur empat belas tahun, dia menikahinya setelah seorang pendeta memastikan bahwa ibuku adalah perempuan yang subur. Perjodohan itu menguntungkan baginya karena ibuku seorang anak tunggal sehingga harta kekayaannya akan jatuh ke tangan suaminya nanti.

The Reading Experience
Duckworth does not, as you might expect from her credentials, write like an academic or a scientist – and that’s good. She uses a simple, straightforward prose style. Her chapters function as stand-alone, complete entities. Each one raises a certain idea, practice or example that relates to grit and how to cultivate it. This works well for the episodic reader. You can pick up the book at any chapter’s beginning and glean worthwhile and even practicable advice. But that structure becomes a little tiring if you like to start a book at the beginning and read it through to the end.

Bio
For more than a decade, I have been taking part in the world of translating/proofreading various files from English to Indonesia or vice versa. I have been translating contracts, agreements, books, articles, and subtitles related to the different fields of work or study.
I have also been involved in interpreting gigs in a seminar, training, visitation, interviews, etc. This work requires me to verbally assist foreign experts in delivering their materials, information, and knowledge to people with difficulty understanding the language used by the experts.
I have had some opportunities working as an interpreter or translator for some local, national, and international institutions. In doing these works, I managed to compile different knowledge and experiences which added skills that are beneficial for translating and interpreting. The last work I did was for PT. Green Enterprises Indonesia, an agribusiness company that is based in Simeulue, Aceh. I helped to translate contracts, agreements, advertisements, and other documents necessary for running their business.

I also indulge myself in the stories found in books and movies as my leisure activities. These two activities give me insight related to different cultures and languages which is quite helpful in doing translation and interpreting. I have learned many cultural or field terms just by doing these two activities regularly.
I am also a member of the Indonesian Translator Association (HPI.) Currently, I am in the process of adding more credentials as a translator or interpreter.
